Door curtain

I just put up a curtain on my front door and it's made so much difference to the temperature of the whole downstairs. I live in a really old house and don't know why I haven't done this before.

And it looks cosy, and now feels cosy.

Just recommending it for people with chilly front hallways 😊

@custardcreme77 I have just measured mine. Door frame is 32" and we have 44" curtain. There is enough for some gentle gathering. Very happy with it. Got mine from Dunelm online

Thank you.

I’ve been thinking of doing this too. We had one in our old house where the front door opened directly into the living room.

Though we have an enclosed porch here which reduces the drafts through the front door.

I think we got our portiere rod from an ad at the back of a magazine the last time…

Every day is a school day! I now know there is such a thing as a special door rod.😁 I have double doors leading into our living room. Drafty and deeply inset into the thick stone wall, I wonder if there is a portiere rod type solution for double doors. Has anyone found a solution?

Yes, they make a huge difference. I've had a door curtain over my wooden front door in my hall for years. Always had voile curtains at my french doors in the living room, just for decoration. This year, with the energy prices being so high, I swapped the voiles for some thermal blackout curtains from M&S and I can't get over how much warmer it's been.

@RaininginDarling
Ive not seen a double door solution and can’t picture how it would be done. Would it help to just have a pair of curtains above the recess?

Yes, I suspect that is the only solution but I was hoping there might be a a twin rail solution where the door rail that gets the traffic can overhang/move whilst the closed door can be matched with a regular/shorter rail on the always closed door, if that makes any sense.

I think your idea is possible but I’m useless at picturing stuff like this.

WeRock · 30/11/2023 21:47

Can you please tell me where you bought your portière and did it come with the curtain rings? Thanks

Dunelm have cheap portiere rods. We have just put one up at the back door and it makes a huge difference. I thought it wouldn’t work since we have a cat flap in the door but the cats seem quite happy pushing their way through at the side.

I’m just making one to go between the sitting room and hallway, DH can’t bring himself to shut the door because dcats wouldn't be able to get in and out. I put it up halfway done last night and it made an amazing amount of difference.

Fab, thanks!
