Hi all. Ok, so I’m a single mum with my youngest child now 19 who has finished college. He currently only works part time. I currently pay the reduced amount of council tax. But now he has finished in education, should I now be paying full although he isn’t in full time employment? On top of that, I spend most of my time with my new partner, who is now concerned about his council tax as he is registered as a single homeowner! I don’t mind paying him the extra to have my name put on with him but can I be registered at 2 properties?

Your 19 year old needs to go on your council tax. You don't need to be on your partners council tax.

You need to declare your son's earnings to your council and they will work out what you need to pay. you don't need to be on your partner's council tax bill if you don't live there.

Your son needs to be on your council tax bill and pay the difference.

Don't pay your boyfriends council tax bill just because you sleep there sometimes! Whose idea was tthat?

The council tax will want to know when your ds left full time education as you’ll need to pay for full occupancy from that date and it can be backdated

if you are paying ctax at one address then they won’t charge your b/f for you at his address
