How are you drying washing?

It's been really wet and rainy here over last few weeks so no chance of outdoor drying, but I've used over £50 in gas in the last week (prepayment meter) drying on radiators and small airers over the back of doors. I really cannot afford £50+ a week on gas 😔 especially as it's not even freezing here yet and could manage without much/any heating if it wasn't for the washing.

I've thought about heated airer but they are pricey and quite honestly there's nowhere to put it

I stick it on the airer outside if it's bright and sunny or take it down to the dryers in the laundrette. £4 usually dries two loads of washing that I've spun dried at home.

Tumble dry. So long as I can afford it I will use it. It’s an essential in my book

I agree.

Does anyone know the limit on how many items you can’t put in a tumble dryer and it still work as well?

Muchtoomuchtodo · 08/12/2022 22:37

@Kirytl don’t they have a weight limit? I think they do and it’s less than the weight limit of a load of washing for a washing machine

I don’t see how tumble drying in the laundrette is cheaper than tumble drying using your own electricity (if you have a tumble dryer obviously).

I use my drier a few times a week and it costs about £2 a load.

Well I don't have a tumble drier to start with!

But when I had one I wouldn't have been able to dry a double and single bedding set together in 18 mins.

Or 2 bathsheets 3 - 4 bath towels 3 hand towels and a bathmat.

I let the washing pile up until there’s a decent drying day ahead. For example, tomorrow will be very cold but sunny all day and a south westerly breeze, so I’m assuming that it will feel warmer than today when it’s coming from the north west. I will aim to get things 50% dry and then just on a normal aider, leaving space between the items. I don’t do an extra spin, I turn the automatic spin off and then manually set it to 1400. Today I’ve only put on polyester stuff and smalls to get that dry inside before the cottons tomorrow outside.

I just hang it all on a clothes horse or on chairs/over doors. Don't have a tumble drier. It has a spin at the end of the cycle.
