www.itv.com/news/2022-11-28/national-grid-may-pay-households-to-reduce-energy-to-avoid-blackouts-on-tuesday

I've just seen on the news that the National Grid are thinking about doing their first demand flexibility session tomorrow evening. As I understand it's optional and people willing have likely already signed up to the scheme. No intention of causing any panic, the lights are not going to go off! I think it's just that demand will be high tomorrow evening because of the England v Wales match and this is an attempt to keep a lid on the energy usage.

Grateful for input from those with any further insight.

It seems that the National Grid will make a decision by 2:30pm today whether to go ahead.

Hadn’t heard anything about this so haven’t had chance to sign up. Off to look it up

Just come up as 'breaking' on the 1pm Sky News, first I'd heard of it for tomorrow too!

Guardian mentions supplier has to have signed up, not you personally? www.theguardian.com/business/2022/nov/28/national-grid-emergency-winter-plan-energy-prices

I think your supplier had to sign up first, and then if your supplier has signed up, you can then sign up, but you don't have to...

Am I right in thinking you need a smart meter for this?

TokyoSushi · 28/11/2022 13:18

I think so

Yes, and if, like to many thousands of people, you were stupid enough to actually commit to a smart meter when they started pushing them so that you could see your climate impact on energy use, then you will also find that the bloody thing doesn't work if you switched suppilers, so you are also excluded because you have a "stupid smart meter". They have been promising to "fix" mine for 6 years now!
