Merry Christmas 🎅

I can't get my head around it, how the hell can it cost as much as it does. Scary.

forwhatitsworth22 · 28/11/2022 06:42

It's ridiculous, thing is with young children I need to have it on, I'll just deal with any debt over spring/summer

My bill for December is Gas £87.90 Electric nil (after £66 credit)

That's with the CH on 19 all day 7am to 11pm, so certainly not cold.

How are you using so much?

I don't understand how you've used so little? How big is your house? Children? How many rads do you have on?

Just done a meter reading for gas and it's taken £83.04 from our credit. Our last meter reading was 21 days ago and radiators have probably been on for about 2-6 hours each day 🤔

So roughly £3.95 a day on Gas?

How can you all have a bill for December when it’s only 3rd? I can see the bill date varies but that’s actually mostly November when it wasn’t too cold. My November bill was actually lower than October this year.

The December bill is for November actual useage.

BMW6 · 04/12/2022 12:55

October was very mild and our CH wasn't on every day. November was much colder so we had it on every day that month, all day.

My November bill wasn't large, my December bill originally quoted was based on my usage last year with todays prices,

We’ve had the thermostat at 16 all month, so the heating hasn’t been on much, but our bill is over £300 because we have a large house. Surely you can see that people’s outgoings will depend on their own circumstance?

BMW6 · 04/12/2022 13:22

Well you must be in an absolutely huge detached house if heating it to 16 degrees cost £300 for 1 month!!

CorporateBull · 04/12/2022 13:36

That’s gas and electric so not that bad. But my point was that you surely can saw that many people will have bigger houses than yours and therefore bigger bills?

IAmTi · 04/12/2022 13:40

Have you got a smart meter? If not make an appointment for a smart meter at the end of a day. If they don't turn up the energy company might pay you compensation on your bill.

daffodilandtulip · 05/12/2022 18:59

I've just done what you tried, using last December's bill with this years prices:

Gas £320
Electric £157
Standing charge £28

Total £505

Ridiculous.

It's scary isn't it, I just think at least I know roughly what I'm going to be charged. I'm going to use all year to pay it off and get in credit for next year

@forwhatitsworth22 I won't be paying that! Usage is being strictly monitored!

We are trying to limit usage but at the same time I don't want my house to get damp, I'm keeping my heating lower, 18 instead of 20. It's on a timer and showers instead of baths.
We've swapped for LEDs and upstairs TV has been unplugged and not getting used, chest freezer turned off, not sure what else I can do Angry

I just got my November bill and it's £280 Shock I'm so shocked how much it is

FelizNavicrab · 05/12/2022 21:00

We've cut our usage (gas and elec) by about 25% compared to last year.

Even with that, December's bill will likely be around £350.

If prices go up as predicted, next December's will be £415!!!!! Xmas Shock

wtfisgoingonhere21 · 05/12/2022 21:54

Gas and electric combined for November was £258 ConfusedConfusedConfused

Can't get my head around it and November was really mild for the most part where we are.

Am literally dreading this month and January especially now we've all been out on low temp warnings.

The perfect storm for power cuts in January so glad I've bought some really good led lanterns and torches oh and lots of Xmas lights dotted around running on batteries because at this rate we will be sitting in the dark after this bill Blush
