This scheme has been broadened and people who might not have been able to apply previously may be eligible. There are limited funds so apply sooner rather than later.

For example you can qualify if you recieve UC with child element and have earnt 1400 or less in any month from October 2021. This is higher than previous years so am qualifying for the first time.

Is that earning 1400 from your job or money coming in total including uc? Do you just need to call them up? Thanks

Chasingsquirrels · 08/11/2022 09:15

My understanding is that (in england, havent looked at the scotland details) you no longer need to apply but will be identified if eligible?

I've just looked at the details on Shell Energy (my supplier) and that is definitely my reading of it.

Plus Shell are giving their customers an extra £150.

Mummyboy1 · 08/11/2022 09:17

@Chasingsquirrels how will they know? I haven't told them I'm on universal credit. I'm definitely going to find out more information

Identified through gov records.
Check your supplier website for details.

Just checked Octopus and we will be identified and contacted by letter between Nov and Jan, it states you have to meet a low income criteria and a high energy costs criteria. Let's Hope that I still qualify.

Sorry should of said I'm in Scotland. I'm with EDF and you apply online.

It's if your wage was less than 1400 before you recieve UC much higher than previous years.

Thanks for the reminder op, I'm with British Gas and have just applied online, took less than a minute.

I'm in Scotland too and the blurb said that some would need to apply and some will be eligible automatically. I just went ahead and applied anyway and the message said they think I'm eligible but will contact me to confirm.

If it helps anyone else, i receive child tax credit with an income of less than 17,005 and have dependants under 18. No other qualifying elements.

According to Eon, those eligible will be contacted at some point this winter by the DWP. To be eligible under core group 2 (group 1 being those on pension credit) you must receive certain benefits AND have "highest heating costs"?

So it seems, that having been eligible for the last ten or so years based on my (lack of) income, there is a chance I might not actually be eligible this year? No idea - as it doesn't say anywhere what "highest heating costs" translates to in actual numbers!

Therefore those of us on the lowest of benefits face additional stress of not knowing whether we will receive this help. Including (ie me) those on disability.

It is different in Scotland I didn't realise that initially. Fingers crossed you still get the payment.
