Putting the heating on but how long for.

I'm going to have to put the heating on. The washing won't dry without it for a start. How many more times expensive is it than last year roughly? If I put it on for like 1 hour when I would have had it on for 3 will it still cost about the same as last year?

@NewBootsAndRanty Does octopus show the amount of energy used in £ ?

NewBootsAndRanty · 05/11/2022 21:38

Not properly.

I can see what I've been billed if submit a reading, but the pricing doesn't take the price guarantee rates into account and is higher than the actual bill iyswim?

I don't have an in home display thing either, not sure if it'd show up on one if i did.

Low and constant heating is the best option I think. Plus shutting your curtains at dusk and insulating your house.

@NewBootsAndRanty
Do you have a Smart meter? We're with Octopus but just thinking I can't see that kind of info on our account but we don't have a Smart meter.

Yep, smart meter for gas and electricity.

My DD is around 2.2 times more expensive so far than last year, but I suspect that will increase a bit. The DD they suggest is probably around 2.6 more expensive but I’ve got the £66 a month towards it and have built up £400 credit somehow so I’m keeping it at £230 a month. I’m doing my best to turn things off and so far I’ve reduced the temp in the house and it’s fine, but as the winter goes on will probably have to increase it. I’ve also got a log burner which helps

Really recommend putting your washing on an aider in your smallest room or bathroom or cloakroom toilet and shut the door and sticking your dehumidifier in there. It works really well, will protect your house from damp and your heating is more efficient when the air isn’t damp. The electricity used is cheaper than running your gas boiler to heat the house to dry clothes.

Ours come on for an hour on a morning - 17.5 degrees and it’s on for 4 hours on an evening at 18.5 degrees. Obviously depends on the weather but it doesn’t come everyday and if it does it sometimes is just for an hour. Struggling with getting clothes dried though and things do feel cold/damp in the house!
