Water Help scheme

Hi

Is anyone familiar with the water help scheme. Trying to help a friend who is on benefits but still not sure she is eligible which seems crazy. This is with Thames water by the way.

The cut off in London is c£21k.

She gets £2250 benefits a month, which is over the threshold, but these include:

  • £500 towards childcare costs
  • £1300 towards rent
Her disposable income - to cover all bills and food - is under £200 a week. So basically every penny is gone every month.

We tried to get her a water meter but they said they can't fit one. Her water bill is £450 a year because of this - I reckon on a meter it would be half that. Hence why the water help scheme seemed the next thing to look at.

Any insight here gratefully received - thanks!

Also have a look at Assessed Measured Charges. It's a means of charging customers "as if" they have a meter where its technically impossible to install one.
