Is your statement available?

There should be the housing element.

If it’s paid directly to the landlord, it will show under deductions a bit further down in the statement

Not sure if I have a statement available as I starred a new claim as a single parent it does mention the amount of the rent as far as I know they havent sorted it yet according to my daughter she said I have to pay the amount out of my universal credit as well as the top up is this right

Yes you will have to pay your rent and the top up out of your universal credit. It is all one benefit not like tax credit, housing benefit etc.

Daydreamer12345 · 23/10/2022 21:56

Yes, that will be right.

Usually, 4 weeks after your claim started your first statement will be available.

oviraptor21 · 23/10/2022 21:57

When did you start the claim? It needs to run for a month before they will post your first statement.

Did you ask to have your rent paid direct to the landlord? If you did then that should happen and the amount will show as a deduction on your statement and you'll only have to pay the excess amount.
If not then there will be no deduction so you will have to pay all of it.

Why not ring up UC in the morning to find out if the rent will be paid direct to landlord. Then you'll know what to expect.

Oh is it 4 weeks after I was getting worried as it seems a lot to pay rent out of your universal credit I think it was getting paid to my landlord I think I'm getting 958 so the rent will be paid out of that and top up

If direct payment to landlord has been set up, there would be confirmation on the journal of this.

Unless the statement is available the call centre staff won’t be able to see if one is going to be in place on payment date.

Yeh i know it's early days as my claim has just started i would probably phone them in morning to find out thankyou for the information and daydreamer 12345

You would have to of made a specific request for a direct payment to your landlord. If you didn't then it's unlikely it is going direct . In which case you pay your rent out of the universal credit and what is left is for you to pay bills and live on.

How much 'top up' you pay depends on how close to the allowable rent rate your actual property costs. This depends on your circumstances, amount of children, postal area. Age and any disabilities.

Put your post code and circumstances in this and you should be able to work out your housing allowance .

The other thing to bear in mind - which I should have mentioned - is that it doesn't always get actioned in the first month even though it's been set up. This is more common if you have requested it than if the landlord (especially social landlord) has requested it.

Maybe talk to Citizens Advice. They can work out how much you should be getting so you can tell if you've had the rent paid or not.

Babyroobs · 23/10/2022 23:04

If you work then the total of your Uc elements(including rent elements) will be reduced by earnings.

Babyroobs · 23/10/2022 23:05

If you have sent them your tenancy agreement and this has been verified then your rent element should be on your statement when that is available to view.

moonbeam3 · 26/10/2022 18:30

Yes I have I think my rent element was on the statement I've sort of sorted it now thanks

I don't think it has been actioned yet but I think my rent amount is wrong alsonsonthat would need sorting
