Do you use it? I’ve been using it for a long time, and it’s definitely got better in the last few years. Both in London and elsewhere I have managed to get some really good things. Recently got a nice bedroom chair. I also have given away a lot of furniture there, I prefer to give away directly than donate to a charity as they seem to forget these days that they’re meant to be a place for people with not much money to pick up a bargain as their prices are too high.
Things I would never buy now because I know I can get them there if I wait:
sofas, chairs, dining tables, occasional tables, coffee tables, fold out sofa beds, ikea furniture!, bookcases, gardening items esp pots and compost bins, bathroom items like sinks, baths and showers if I ever renovate or build, tv stands, clothing rails, cabinets, lighting fixtures and fittings, kitchen items of all kinds.

I do wonder how many people know about it? Some of the things you can get are amazing. I saw someone posted a luxury Italian kitchen in London once, you just had to pay to get it removed and put in your house. Please donate your old household items here if you can.

Used to give stuff away on it..and freegle...but I found too many cf's and lack of politeness too depressing

WahineToa · 10/10/2022 13:36

Oh no, really? Gosh I use it so much and have never had a bad experience. I felt like I was rubbing a shop last time I moved house I had people coming all day to collect! Just left it outside.

Exactly the same, Yucca. It's a shame, because I liked giving back to my community, but it was just such hard work giving stuff away that way. I gave up in the end.

WahineToa · 10/10/2022 13:38

Oh that’s really gutting to hear people not have a good experience. Damn. You’d hope everyone was super committed to the concept and behave themselves

I've used it for years and years, but stopped when I was getting overwhelmed by the e-mails, and easier ways of giving and collecting started to emerge through Facebook.
Never ever had any of the issues of people messing us about either with Freecycle or the local groups.
Where I live now, there are 2 or 3 FB groups just for people to give away things on - it's lovely, and so useful (both to give and to receive).

WahineToa · 10/10/2022 14:24

Oh I’m not on Facebook, I guess that’s easier for lots of people.

I use freecycle mostly to give away. So far it’s been good and an easy way to offload unwanted bits. I am very clear in my post I will not deliver so I hope that deters the CFs

Try olio. It's a good app. You can give away food and household stuff on there.

TooHot2022 · 17/10/2022 12:11

It makes me so sad when I see people filling up a skip outside their house with perfectly decent and reusable furniture and household items just because they are too lazy busy to recycle stuff. Most council 'tips' now have recycling areas/ shops for decent stuff too.

WahineToa · 17/10/2022 13:35

I agree @TooHot2022 I also don’t understand why we buy so much household stuff in the first place! People chuck so much out!!

Oh, I wish they did here.
There are 5 Council tips in our City and only one of them has a recycling centre, and that is new within the last year and across the City for me . It's something I've been suggesting for decades. Seems so obvious to me - I am amazed at the stuff some people throw out.
