Octopus energy

Octopus have reduced my direct debit by £67 going forward as per the government grant.
Does anyone know if the direct debit will go up again to cover the October rises or has the government grant covered me. There is no info on my account about this.

You can change your direct debit online/on the app so if you don't think your payment will cover your usage you can increase it yourself

I think Octopus DDs are reviewed regularly and are quite dynamic. Ours has changed a few times over the past few months - we were in quite a lot of debt due to missing a payment when we were transferred from Avro, and then when our payment was set up it was left at the old rate for a few months, even though the rate we were on with Octopus was significantly higher than what it was with Avro.

So they then increased it to what it should be, but then added on a temporary amount for a few months to catch up.

Then I think they decided it was too high and dropped it a bit. TBH I wouldn't worry about it. You can keep an eye on things using the balance forecast tool in your online account and I think Octopus will automatically control your DD so you're paying the right amount.

After all, many people will be reducing their usage either because they can't afford the prices, or even if they can, they've had a bit of a wake up call about their energy usage. Plus Octopus pay £50 if you refer someone, so some people will be getting a little extra in their accounts due to this, which will need to be reflected in their DD amounts too.

I'm pretty confused about this too. I increased my DD back in about March when talk of price rises began so I was building up a balance over summer. Now Octopus have reduced my DD back down to where it was last winter before all the price rises. With the caps and the refund and everything else I just have lost all touch with whether that's a sensible amount to be paying. Fortunately for me I'm on smart meters so I'll always be able to check my balance against actual usage. I think I'm just going to have to check in over the next few months and see what my monthly bill actually is and adjust my DD to the right amount.

I can't make head or tail what octopus is telling me my account is doing.
I gave a meter reading a couple of weeks ago and they haven't updated my account except to say I'm 2k in debit currently.
I've been with them just before the crisis and my ex supplier OVO is sending random emails that I must settle my last bill which octopus was supposed to have done when I signed up.
I'm flummoxed

They are simply reducing your payment for the fuel package the government are giving. I think it was £400. This means the additional money can be used to what you need at this time rather than only towards your energy. It will go back up once you've claimed that money.

For example mine is £120 per month, this month my dd should be £54 (due end of month) then £54 per month until December, £53 from Jan to Mar then back up to £120 from April. It's how they're paying their customers the £400. If you're worried about building a debt balance, you can make a manual payment to your account anytime, if you can afford to. Some suppliers are taking the full direct debit amount before refunding a payment of £66

If you switched to Octopus then aren't you responsible for paying your last bill with OVO?
Why would Octopus pay it for you?
