Is 4G or 5G home broadband cheaper than a fixed line home broadband ?

for example buy a 4G or 5G router from Amazon any thing from £100 to £500 to buy the router out right and then get a EE unlimited phone sim for the 4G or 5G router .

thanks I’m trying to save money on broadband as I got virgin media and it’s expensive so I want to get rid of Virgin media and try for 4G or 5G home broadband.

If you receive certain benefits you can get a social tariff. Eg BT essentials with fibre broadband is £15 a month including phone line

We have 4G internet at home. Have a TP link router which I think cost £80 and pay £30 a month for unlimited data 4g sim from Voxi. Works really well and both me and DH can easily work from home, be on teams calls and be streaming Netflix at the same time without any issues.

Sorry I didn't answer your question, but the social tariff are not really advertised so I thought it might help somebody

What MBPS can you get on 4G and 5G if it’s in your area ?

Do you actually have a decent signal? We need fixed broadband and phoneline because we have virtually no mobile signal of any variety in our house. There's no way on earth we'd be able to stream media, conduct Teams calls or pretty much anything on the mobile signal.

We're with BT and pay just under £40 pm for fibre broadband and a decent amount of free calls. At the end of the deal I'll phone up and ask for a discount to stay and if they're not forthcoming, I'll look for something else. The router and a phone for the calls came with the package, plus I got £100 cashback as part of the deal.

You can get fixed line internet for like £18 a month. Not sure 4/5G will be any cheaper.

That doesn’t necessarily follow. There is zero mobile signal inside or outside where I am but I can get 4G data with an external aerial.

However, if I could get wired broadband, I would. 4G can be unreliable and it’s not really any cheaper than the cheapest wired connection.
