Fast wash on washing machine?

fairgame84 · 02/10/2022 12:47

Will this save money AND clean the clothes properly?

The fast wash reduces the normal wash from 2hr10 to 1hr. Theres also a 30min and 15min fast wash but I feel they might not clean properly.

There's an eco wash as well which I've started using which takes 2hr20.

Not sure which is the best for energy usage.

Fantastic, thanks. I find it really hard to keep on top of energy usage in general but I am going to force myself to take an interest.

It’s really worth looking up the manual for your machine online as they often have the exact usage for each cycle and then you can work out the price for each one. There’s no hard and fast rule. Some “eco” programmes are more about saving water than electricity but not all.

The fast washes are designed for Mumsnetters who wash everything after one use so nothing is actually dirty. Therefore, they don't notice if they don't clean properly.

I only ever use a 40 degree one hour wash for clothes and 60 degree one hour wash for sheets and they always come out immaculate and smell totally fresh.
If you feel the heat on the glass, look at the amount of foam and amount it goes round in one hour I'd be shocked if anything didn't wash well.

On a side note I'd reccommend Ecover washing powder!

I've only ever used the fast washes I have a 40min use all time an occasional 20min for very small loads. But for towels and bedding every other wash I do a boil wash. But I generally only wear an item once to nothing is ever actually dirty.

I always use the daily all in one wash on my machine which takes 55 minutes, considerably less than the other cycles. My clothes come out fine, I do still wash on 40 though, our clothes can get pretty grubby.

The eco wash (both 40 & 60C) setting on my machine is rubbish as clothes especially sports wear don't smell clean & stains don't always come out plus the cycle is 4 hrs long

So I use the normal 1hr 30 mins cycle on 40 or 60C depending on what I'm washing & clothes come out smelling lovely & stain free.
I think clothes do need some sort of bashing/agitating to get clean rather than just soaking.
I use bio powder & put it in a little old Ariel/Persil ball & stick it in with the clothes (don't need to use as much powder that way)
