We've currently got Sky Glass on request of the husband in January, and it's a pile of shit Grin and costs a small mortgage. we're looking at other forms of TV; firestick/now tv?/Britbox?/dodgy stick? anything else we're currently unaware of...

Those who don't have sky or regular freeview, what do you use?! We don't tend to watch live tv really, other than the odd thing or ad hoc. We stream most on catch up services, Netflix or prime, all of which we're dishing out for, obviously.

Im going on Maternity come January so looking for the most cost effective service for our needs if anyone has any words of wisdom!

If it was up to me, I would just have freeview, especially if I had netflix. That would be enough for me. Other people in the house disagree. I suppose it depends how low you want to go. TV isn't really important to me now - before t'internet, I'd watch it most evenings.

I am cancelling Sky end of the year. I like to use pause record catch up plus Netflix so as I do not have a smart tv will buy a digibox or if I can afford it a smart tv. No need for any direct debits that way.

KangarooKenny · 01/10/2022 09:05

We are stuck with Sky as DH watches the football. But it’s disgustingly expensive.

PlantDoctor · 01/10/2022 09:34

We have Netflix and Amazon prime. Could you get away without a replacement if you have Netflix and some of the catch-up services like All4/iPlayer?

LittleLlama · 01/10/2022 16:31

We have a fire tv stick, because we do not have a Smart TV and subscribe to Amazon Prime. It works well.

PuttingDownRoots · 01/10/2022 16:34

We have a roku stick (so our now smart TV recieves wifi)then alternate between netflix Disney and prime every couple of months)

Same. Fire stick but with Netflix instead of Prime

Be sure to cancel your TV licence if you don't watch live TV and can live without BBC iPlayer. That will save over £10pm.

I have a Fire Stick plus Netflix.

CinnaSista · 01/10/2022 19:57

We were looking at a firestick today. Because we have the sky glass tv when we cancel the package, the tv reverts to a standard not a smart tv so would need some sort of input to enable streaming etc. apparently the firestick can be 'chipped'? to include sky sports cos that's the sole reason we haven't cancelled so far, husband would die a burning death without sports Hmm

If you get a stick you can buy sky sports packages on things like now tv.

But what's wrong with the package you've got that you're trying to replace?

Moomoo2o22 · 01/10/2022 20:17

We just have a now tv box and freeview. You can add packages to the now tv like sports or movies they often have offers on so you get them at a discounted price and you can also watch netflix/prime/Disney through the now tv ( separate subscription tho) we only have those if they have an offer on.

EmmaC78 · 01/10/2022 20:19

I have just got freeview and Netflix.

PurplRainDancer · 01/10/2022 20:21

Netflix and Amazon Prime

AlwaysGinPlease · 01/10/2022 20:22

We have Sky, Apple TV , Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney plus and something else I can't recall. We should get rid but never get around to it. I think Sky will go.

Oh that's perfect then! It's the cost of Sky that's the issue when we don't use really any of it other than sports. Looks like firestick is probably the best option!

I have a Youview box. You have an initial outlay, but after that no subscription. I can record, pause, forward and rewind on it. I also have a fire stick so can get Prime, Netflix etc. Not sure on getting sport as I don't watch any.

I gave up with Sky years ago due to their ever increasing costs. I would never go back to anything like that again.
