Retail workers in high end / designer shops - how do you feel?

Just wondered how retail workers / sales assistants feel when customers come in and spend the equivalent of their monthly mortgage payment / electric bill on one item? For example a designer bag costing £100’s / £1000’s +

Presumably pleased that they’ll earn commission (?) but also presumably shocked at the same time?

I worked in retail years ago but not when the cost of living was going through the roof!

Not in the retail arm but work for a luxury company.

Currently I feel grateful that there are still plenty of people happy to buy what pays my wages.

People at that level are virtually bullet proof. I feel safer here than I did when I worked for a mid market company

Not the retail arm but I work for a high end company and I'm just grateful there are people happy to buy the stuff that pays my salary.

Some people just seem to be bullet proof. I feel safer here than I did when I worked mid market in 2008

Oops - post fail

Have you only recently been able to afford what you deem high end? Seems an odd way to feel and you’d generally have rapport with sales assistants who have previously helped you so wouldn’t feel awkward or anything.

Teat yourself, your keeping the member of staff in a job. They honestly won't be thinking badly of you, along as you treat them as a human they'll be happy to see you in the store.

@Mrsfussypants1 yes that’s true! As I say I used to work in retail (part time when I was at uni around 25 years ago!) and I always treat people well regardless of their job. I am always friendly and polite.

@NCFT0922 yes I suppose relatively recently - I’m more likely to save up and buy something more expensive / better quality now rather than buy lots of cheaper things. I don’t tend to shop in the same places a lot - definitely not enough to have a rapport with the staff.

Not me, but when DDs were in school their friend worked in Villeroy and Boch. She was shocked at the amount people spend on plates.

@AdoraBell My friend bought all V&B stuff it was well over a decade ago I remember her mugs were £50 each.
