Cold kitchen- rugs?

My kitchen is something of a cold trap, I'm getting thermal linings for the curtains and draught proofing etc but the floor is concrete with lino on top.

Would a rug actually do anything to help keep the room warmer or would it just feel better under foot?

I don't want the hassle of something else to launder if it's not going to be of any real benefit!

I would get the rug, I've been thinking the same, it is most likely psychological but a bit of cosy colour on the floor will lift the spirits regardless of the heat trapping.

I'd get a rug. For me, cold feet affect my whole body feeling cold but I like being barefoot! A rug would stop feet from being on cold concrete! Plus, as above, the colour can make a room appear warmer

I've got rag rugs I put in the kitchen over the colder months.
They are machine washable so if there are spills at the table they can be easily cleaned.

Have one large one that fits under the table in there, plus 2 smaller ones I use in front of the sink & in front of the kettle/cooker (they are close together)

They make a big difference to your feet feeling cold, but my robot hoover hates them & gets all stuck up on the corners or tries to eat them.

He happily climbs on the wool rugs in other rooms.

I always end up tripping over the bloody things.

I've never tried this myself but has anyone ever tried outdoor rugs for a kitchen? Or even a bathroom? I'd imagine they'd be more forgiving for spills.

I'd go for the rug op.

Thanks all!

My outdoor 'rug' is woven plastic so kitchen spills would be a nightmare.

I have a machine washable kitchen rug which is easy to hoover and stick in the washing machine.

I keep seeing ads for Ruggable - machine washable rugs - and I'm soooooo tempted. Has anyone got one?

Do be careful.
A loose rug in a kitchen always makes me think of those ‘circle all the hazards you can see in this picture’ worksheets.
Next, you’ll be storing unlabelled poisons next to the orange squash, trailing damaged cables across the stairs and running 14 appliances off one plug socket.

Rather than a rug , why not buy sheepskin inserts for your slippers ( for the whole family )

CornishGem1975 · 30/09/2022 09:51

My kitchen is bloody freezing all the time, I'm sitting in it now. A rug sounds like a great idea!

We do wear slippers all the time, so I'm not worried about the floor being cold underfoot - more trying to find cost effective ways of taking the chill out of the room!

Lol I know what you mean

My kitchen has a concrete floor. I had a few mm of thermal insulation boarding fitted on top of the concrete, then tiling on top. It made a massive difference to the temperature in the room. I had underfloor electric heating installed at the same time, but I don’t even need to switch it on except for the very coldest winter days.
