Best place for toothpaste? Finding tubes small and expensive!

Has anyone noticed toothpaste getting very expensive and all the tubes have shrunk as I checked why ours are running out so fast and they are 75ml.
i would love any tips as even supermarket deals (Tesco etc) don’t seem brilliant.

Our local shop does Colgate for about a pound will grab a few for when I move.

randomusername666 · 26/09/2022 22:05

Lidl,. 45p for a decent sized tube

ProlifiInProfanity · 26/09/2022 22:09

Home bargains are pretty good. I get the aqua fresh 100ml pump dispenser there for DC and it’s £1.49, the rest of their toothpaste is generally pretty good value.

I like the Aldi Dentitex, but they also have Colgate 100ml for 98p.

I've used the Morrison's essentials one for years, think it's about 70p a tube. I asked my dentist if it was ok or should I be using the more expensive branded ones and he said that as long as it has the recommended amount of fluoride (1450 ppm) it's fine and that your actual brushing technique is far more important at keeping your teeth clean than what you put on your brush. Also, you don't need to use as much as you think, I use a pea sized blob on my electric toothbrush and it does the job.

Many dentists give small tubes away for free. Go into some to ‘enquire’ about their waiting lists and prices for a hygienist. Take some as you leave…

Thanks! These are really helpful .

Colgate is £1 in lidl

A little tip for tubes, when they appear empty cut off the end - you have get an extra couple of uses out of them - same for other products in tubes.

Whatthetrolley · 27/09/2022 19:09

I seem to have a Toothpaste mountain currently. Always grab a tube if I see it on offer. I can only use a sensitive one and the children aqua fresh. But a clear our of the bathroom cupboard the other week made me realise what ever happens in the coming months, we will always have minty breath!

Home Bargains, Savers, Pound land are always good places for deals.

embolass · 28/09/2022 17:54

Savers £1 good sizes of many well known brands esp the bicarbonate whitening arm and hammer one!

greenacrylicpaint · 28/09/2022 17:56

bottom shelf own brand will be ok.
as long as it contains the recommended amount of flouride

MinervaTerrathorn · 28/09/2022 18:02

Tesco toothpaste is 60p, colgate, macleans £1 for 100ml. Aldi and Lidl are less than a £1 too. What toothpaste are you buying and how much are you using to find it expensive?

This, most things like toothpaste, suncream, shower gel etc still have 10-20% of the product left in them when they start to feel empty. If you throw it away at this point, you can reduce usage by making sure you use all of it.

Also make sure you aren't wasting it. You need far less than the great stripe pictured on the brush on the tube.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/09/2022 07:12

So from that link you can pay anything from 80 p to £16 Shock for a tube of toothpaste and, in reality, they probably all do pretty much the same job as I'd be willing to bet that all the fancy extra features don't add significantly to tooth/gum health or the effectiveness of cleaning.

houseargh · 29/09/2022 07:14

Yes, what is this?! I went into a central London Boots the other day and all variants of Colgate Total were £5 for a 2/3 size tube....whattttt?!?!

Yes, Tesco essentials at 60p is perfectly fine! I usually use Lidl toothpaste that is pence too. Don't understand paying more unless you have specific needs.

MinervaTerrathorn · 29/09/2022 07:33

Colgate three for £1 toothbrushes in Tesco are also good.

I buy Lidl one. No difference between branded stuff and own brand really.

KILM · 29/09/2022 16:08

Home Bargains is cheapest around here, but yes check how much everyone in the family is using, a pea size is enough!

Mine practically forces toothpaste on you! At Christmas they hang samples on a tree and it's free for all. I rarely leave with less than 5 tubes

Cheeselog · 29/09/2022 16:15

Another vote for Lidl own brand and not using loads - we use a small pea sized amount and never had any fillings.
