www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/sainsburys-simply-muesli-1kg-7845255-p-44

This used to be £1.10 ish a few weeks ago and now it's £2.25.
To add insult to injury they've put a 'Price match Aldi' sticker on it.

It is essentially this
www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/dailys-porridge-oats-1kg
with a few raisins, seeds & nuts thrown in.

I guess I'll have to buy the porridge and add my own raisins, seeds & nuts.

I understand your outrage op. ASDA have increased the price of their basic dog food by more than £5.00. It's a joke, the recipe is the same, the size is the same. Also, their mozzarella cheese is up by a £1. There's lots more examples 🙄

Mossstitch · 13/09/2022 14:22

Just back from asda where my favourite butter (no not lurpak, asda own organic😂) has gone to £2.75, last week it was extortionate (I thought) at £2.45 but wasn't that long ago I was paying £1.45......what the heck is going on, that's not in line with inflation!!

Plexie · 13/09/2022 14:30

I wonder if the Price Match to Aldi was an excuse to increase the price because Aldi's price was a lot higher? It makes Sainsbury's 'good' mueslis much better value: £2.20 for 750g but with at least 30% fruit and nut, compared with only 5.5% in the 'Simply' version at £2.25 for 1kg.

Exactly.
You're getting more oats which still costs very little but you're getting 1/6th of the fruit and nut which is the expensive part.
It seems insane.

Whoa are you not aware of the general economic climate? Most things have increased in price, that includes everything from premium brands to economy items. Some supermarkets will absorb the cost on some items, others can't.
Supermarkets operate in very narrow margins. It's volume that counts.
Do you know for a fact wholesale oat prices haven't increased? Just because oat sold on its own doesn't t mean the wholesale price hasn't - they may absorb the cost.
Inflation figures are generalised - certain items will increase more, others less.

I think many of us are and will be slowly changing the way we shop and what we think is essential. There are just some things you'll decide to go without as you can't afford them or will look for a cheaper alternative.

PauliesWalnuts · 17/09/2022 19:46

No idea what the price is as I haven’t done it for a while as I’ve cut out dairy (bad skin and PCOS) but Holland and Barrett used to do a muesli base that you can add your own mixes to. I used to do it so that I could have raisin-free muesli.

AdoraBell · 17/09/2022 22:06

I looked for their own label instant mash for the food bank. It used to be 4 sachets, I can’t remember the exact price, now it’s 2 sachets and more expensive.

Prices are going up all round, and some firms are taking advantage.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 24/09/2022 19:27

Mine is worse. I’m wheat and dairy free. I can’t get a different brand and it has all gone up and I can match it anywhere else. Aldi and Lidl Don’t do free from stuff. And Tesco have the better amount of choice even then there isn’t any. I am physically cutting down the amount that I am eating. Better for my waist line. But it’s unfair.

GreenGoblin0 · 25/09/2022 08:09

Unless I am missing something they are saying it's a price match to this Aldi product - when they are definitely not like for like (the Aldi one has a far higher raisin percentage). I can't see the Aldi have a cheaper muesli but not sure if they put all their products on the website

We generally shop as at aldi but do top up shops at sainburys (mainly for GF stuff for DP as well as toiletries but inevitably we end up getting other stuff from there and it's so expensive so having to be strict on what we get from there now

whenwillthemadnessend · 25/09/2022 08:24

Sainsbos always has been more expensive than the others tho.

Barr Waitrose and m and s

But as previously said all foods going up also butter now 1.99 from 1.45
Chiller Pizza 1.69 to 2.29

Agreed. Also the Aldi pack is 1.1kg so the Sainsbury's one is actually 25% more expensive.

stilldumdedumming · 25/09/2022 09:17

I am very suspicious of their Aldi price matching. I'm not convinced at all.

TheHouseElf · 28/09/2022 12:34

Noticed the same thing at Tesco. Every week I buy pizza mix packets. Was 65p in the summer, then went up to 75p, now 90p. Sainsburys one still at 75p and Asda's 65p. The pizza sauce was £1.00 in January, then £1.10, then £1.25, its now £1.50 (its only 85p at Asda). 50% increase over the last 9 months - that's no way in line with inflation increase.

Think what we have to do is shop around for the best price deals for individual products - but that takes more time.
