Bulk buying meat deals?

Are there any?

Meat is expensive and I try to do meat free meals and bulk out meat meal with extra veg/beans/lentils BUT does anyone know where/if I can buy a big load of (good quality) meat for a good price?

I've looked at muscle food this morning but it doesn't seem any cheaper than the super markets.

Am I in la la land?

La La land I'm afraid. You can go and buy a sheep or half a cow broken down but if you want any decent provenance and animal welfare it won't be cheap. I wouldn't touch muscle food unless you are very careful about what you choose.

I'd rather eat less decent meat.

There's a few of our local butchers offering good deals. I go to one in particular as all the beef comes from their farm and pork from a neighbouring one (all local). It's not super cheap but £20 for 4 good-sized fillet or sirloin steaks of excellent quality is very affordable. So maybe try local independent butchers?

£20 for 4 steaks isn't very affordable for a lot of people.

@abovedecknotbelow perhaps but using one of their steaks in a stir fry feeds our family. We also use one for fajitas. I didn't say it was cheap but it's good value in so far as I know exactly where it comes from and that they're generous sized portions. I'm not on big money (considerably less than the national average) but I think it's affordable because of how I use it.

Link in to local farmers and smallholders if you have freezer space. We sell whole/half lambs and quarter pigs to our customers and get our beef from a neighbour in a 10kg box. It works out excellent value (and you will be able to check welfare standards which is always a worry on budget meat bought commercially).

Very good point!

@Sprig1 I've had a quick Google and it looks like all organic, additive free stuff that cost £50 for a breakfast box near us. I mean it includes a sourdough and some organic ketchup!

You just need to find the right people, they may well not advertise v widely. We certainly don't, we have so much demand, just through word of mouth. Where in the country are you? We are in Wiltshire, there is a group on Facebook called Wiltshire Smallholders and if you asked on there you would find someone who could sell you meat boxes. Other counties must have similar.

@Sprig1 I'm on the coast in the south west 😬
