I'm worried sick about all this and utterly rubbish at maths. Been sticking my head in the sand.

I'm disabled and on benefits uc and pip both elements enhanced.

But I'm struggling to break even most months already.

Readings are as follows (moved in earlier in year)

25/2/22

Gas 7295
Elec 257525 might be 2575.25? Very hard to check the electric due to weird location

3/4/22

Electric (I think) 259516 - where is decimal point meant to be?

Gas 7309.93 I think

9/5/22 taken by someone else not sure if accurate

Electric 26543

Latest readings taken 19/8/22

Electric 269(or 4?)1.57 I think ?

Gas 7384.12

Current tariff details I've screenshot and attaching as pics

I'm currently paying £101 dd which they are at the moment saying I'm £468 in credit

Can anyone work out/advise what my usage is and perhaps an estimate of what dd will be from October?

I find it all so confusing and I'm incredibly anxious I'm dreading all this my Mh is very poor anyway and this is really not helping

I'm sorry you're struggling. I don't know the answer, but I personally am waiting to hear the government's plan, which will be announced later this week. There's some talk of bills staying as they currently are, but we won't know until Thursday ish!

Thank you for replying I feel so lost in this.

I just don't trust this utter shower with liz truss at the helm they've no idea what it's like some of the suggestions! Pennies savings not even a full drop in the ocean!

Sorry, your readings don't make any sense.
What are the readings on your bills for the past year?
Can you post them separately for each quarter?

sparklecement · 06/09/2022 03:32

Are you on Facebook OP. If you are I really recommend a page called Energy Support and Advice. Try posting on there too. Some extremely knowledgable people on there and they will be able to help you.

There's usually 1 number after the decimal point on electricity meter, which you can ignore for meter readings, so the 26543 taken by someone else will be accurate.

The others should all be around 25000, ie 25752 and 25951 (don't worry about rounding up or down, it doesn't matter).

If you're on UC, you should have got £324 and £326 cost of living payment by now, have you? You should also talk to your supplier so they know you're vulnerable, they won't cut you off, might be able to offer you a special tariff, and also payment plans if you get into debt.

The information you've posted about tariffs is a little confusing as it says 'fixed until 2024' but then also talks about numbers being updated from 1/10 this year. Can you explain more about this? Those unit rates look very expensive and that's what you should be comparing. Don't worry so much about the standing charge, it's a small percentage of the annual bill, unless you're an extremely low user.

Current unit rates on the April 22 price cap are about 27 and 8 and your screen shot shows 44 and 13. Do you know if you've fixed at these rates from now (2 years since July?) until July 24 or are you paying different rates?

As for what the government plans to do, they're talking about freezing rates at the current price cap (I think) which will be about 27 and 8 p per unit. What that means for people on more expensive fixes I'm not sure as they've taken contracts out after they've been told 'fix now or else your bill will escalate beyond your wildest fears' and now the goal posts might be moved.

So I'd check what you are paying now (or can you get someone to help you IRL, if not, you could post photos of your whole bill here with your name/address covered up and someone will tell you) and wait to see what the government says, to decide to stay on your fix, or if it's worth changing to whatever they bring in, even if it means paying a penalty.

Sorry, forgot to say, there's also grants available for people on low incomes and in debt, but you need to apply.

Have a look at the British Gas Energy Trust

dementedpixie · 06/09/2022 14:05

The tariff looks like its fixed until 31/7/24 so it won't change in October

Can you get someone to take a picture of the meters so we can see if your readings are accurate

It looks like bills are going to be frozen at the current rate for a couple of years - I'd hold off any decisions about fixing until the government confirm their plans, it should hopefully be this week.
