Oil filled Radiators

I'm thinking off getting 3 of these and using instead of cental heating and wondering if they would be costly to run them. Any ideas please. I have quite a small house so they won't be used for big rooms

I would like to know too.

We have one. But I am not convinced it is that cheap to run sadly.

Given the price of gas vs electricity, I think it's better to use your CH efficiently if you have gas.

Yes will minimise the usage but I have a adult dd who is disabled with osteoarthritis as well as a other disability and needs to keep warm so was thinking for her room when heating not on and I won't get 3 just 1

We had very elderly mil living with us from December to August this year with a 2kw oil filled radiator in her room to keep it at a steady 23°. As well as CH which was set at a much lower temperature.
It put our bills up considerably from a usual £200 to £400 a quarter.

I suspect cheaper to put heating on for long enough to heat her room and turn off radiators in rooms not being used. Heated throw? They are what the rest of us will be rocking this year!

You can work out the cost by multiplying the power of the heater (eg 2kW) by the hourly unit cost for electricity.

So if electricity costs 46p per kWh, a 2kW heater (on full power for an hour) would cost 92p per hour (plus VAT). So nearly £1 an hour, although in practice the heater might not be on full power the whole time.

I've got an oil filled radiator and don't think it throws out much heat. Waste of money buying it. It collects dust in the conservatory now.

I'm worried about this too. We have a tortoise who is kept in an outdoor insulated shed (upvc windows and doors) but we have to run one of these to keep it warm. Could be an expensive winter!

lightand · 31/08/2022 12:14

Even at dial 2, it keeps the room warm enough[and i like quite a lot of heat].

I had one but didn't think the heat output was great, turned into another clothes horse, along with the treadmill
