Before it becomes a health hazard to have so much dust.

Bloody hell! Why do people hoover so much?! I hoover once every 2 weeks. Kitchen and utility is hard floor so sweep that every other day. Our living room and bedroom are hardwood floors but even then I don't sweep them more than I hoover although I could if needed.

Do you have indoor cats using litter trays ... that's why!

So surprised at some of these answers!

I Hoover once a day ish, it's very simple to do so with a robot and a hand held dyson.

I'm all for trying to save on energy costs but there's got to be a limit hasn't there? And that limit should possibly be not leaving it three months before running the vacuum round

I've got young children and try to keep them in the hard floor areas mostly any way to try and contain the mess. I can get by with a brush and a spray mop then just vacuum the rug once per day, but that only takes a minute with a cordless.

For the rest, I can do once per week. I do downstairs more than I really need to just because i've got the hoover out anyway so may as well. Upstairs is probably once per fortnight but we don't use up there much during the day and have no pets.

I’m surprised too - do you have pets? If I hoovered every day there wouldn’t be anything for it to pick up. I have a cordless hoover which is great to use so that isn’t the reason I don’t hoover more often, I just don’t think it needs doing more than max once a week (other than cleaning up a specific spill etc).

We have 3 German Shepards so after one day we have tumble weeds of hair on the hard floors. The carpets don’t fair much better but at least the tufts don’t get blown around.

So ideally every day but I can get away with every other day.

Dogs are not allowed upstairs so bedrooms only get done once each week.

MomwasCasual · 31/08/2022 14:24

I live in a very old, very dusty house and if i didn't vacuum daily, within a week my house would be 90% spaniel.

Plus she is one of those white dogs that can be very muddy and wet, but when they dry voila! Pristine again. And you think 'where did the mud go?'

And then you vac up, and realise -ah that's where it went.

To be fair, the Eufy does the daily stuff, I'm not dragging a heavy hoover round every day. I have a hand held for the corners and stairs as and when needed.

Some things I can cut back on, and some things I can't

Could you get a manual carpet sweeper? We had one growing up. Maybe you could bet one on a local community group. www.argos.co.uk/sd/manual-carpet-sweeper/

The Eubank as my Nan used to call it

hotdiggetydog · 31/08/2022 14:29

Some of this multiple times a day stuff belongs on a channel 5 documentary

FindingMeno · 31/08/2022 14:37

I swept by hand for 2 or 3 months before I could afford a hoover, and the place didn't look dirty.

My mum thought like you. She doesn't know how bullied I got because of 'friends' telling everyone at school how dusty my house was when they visited. I still protect her from it 20 years later but don't visit her much because the dust just makes me feel ill and sad

I'm sorry you were bullied.

My kids must have better taste in friends than your younger self, as they are around here often, as they have been in every home we've lived in. If there was a problem with visible dirt in anyone's eyes, then my kids would have told me, or would have told me their friends told them.

My many friends who come round here on a regular basis also can't see dirt or dust. They see us, not the level of cleanliness of the house.

Cleaning habits conversations have come up over the years and people are shocked with how little my house is cleaned, as they'd have expected it to be dirtier.

Easily a couple of months. We are very healthy. We have a summer cottage with no electricity which has never been vacuumed in 53 years of spending summers there. No one ever gets ill.

OMG 53 years!

Kite22 · 31/08/2022 17:09

Its going to depend on the 'traffic' through each room, and if you have moulting animals, but seriously, the people panicking about not vacuuming for a few weeks is ridiculous.
What do you think is going to happen ? Confused

Monthly is fine OP.
