Working at the office/ away from home to save energy?

I haven't seen much mention of this anywhere. Do you think all the people who were pro WFH after the pandemic will begin to want to go back to the office, or begin to work from cafes/ libraries/ hotel lobbies etc if they can to save on heating costs?
It could actually be the thing that saves city office blocks and their surrounding businesses!

I've mentally been noting local places which are quiet and where I could reasonably spend a few hours on my laptop!

The cafes and pubs could look on it as an opportunity to diversify their businesses eg provide wifi for an hour with every purchase, re arrange tables so they have areas for workers and others for social visits (just some random examples).

I have no choice, my company wants people to work in the office, except emergency situations. I like it this way, tbh. When I WFH, I'm feeling very blah and my cats are interrupting! My husband used to WFH, now he changed jobs and he doesn't and I can see we use less energy and gas. We have to pay for petrol though!

For me, I'll only be going for the days my employer ask me to.

Heating costs need to be balanced with commuting costs - plus the two hours a day sitting in traffic jams, and wear and tear, Estes mileage on the car .

Going unto the office I would want clean smart clothes and freshly washed hair . At home I can leave my hair and clothes a little longer before washing, plus I wear less outfits a day as I would normally change into fleece and joggers when I get home whereas if I'm at home all day - that's what I'll wear all day. Plus my fleece dressing gown if really cold . (This saving on washing costs and a quicker shower/wash if not doing my hair).

I tend to eat cheaper lunches at home as well .

Plus - my retired husband is at home - and if it's really freezing I'm sure he'll put the heating on anyway .

Where I work most people live very locally so commute costs don't cost a lot. But a lot of people haven't returned to the office because they don't fancy it despite it making contacting some people harder and some services less efficient. I cannot wait to see if any of them come creeping back in when it gets cold and working from home is now inconvenient for them.

My office is in a big cold building. I have to put a scarf and jacket on to keep me warm just to go to the toilets. Nothing about it appeals to me in winter but I'm hybrid working anyway.
