Cost to run 24 Kwh gas boiler.

Just checking my maths are correct.
I have a 24 kwh boiler and as the price of gas in October will be 15p per kwh…. so 24 x 15p = £3.60 per hour to have the heating on.

No. That's not how it works. Boilers don't operate at full power all the time. The best way to find out cost of heating is to look at your usage last winter.

My usage was around 2000 to 2500 per month last year for gas, so about £80 to 100. As the price will nearly quadruple for me the same usage will mean close to £400.

I have a 35kw boiler and although it won't run at full power all the time I have it on, I'm thinking if I can only have it in an hour in the morning and evening the rooms won't get up to the temp on the thermostat so the the boiler will be costing £5 an hour when heating a cold room?

The cost of heating has so many variables other than wattage of your boiler. Even with a cold house, your boiler won't be running on max for an hour because it's just part of the system. There's loads to consider such as your radiator set-up, thermostat, size of rooms, insulation. What it costs me for one hour won't necessarily be what it costs someone else, even with the same boiler.

But the best way is to use your usage last year to get an idea of how much your 'usual' cost is and then see how much you can cut back from there. If you have Hive or another smart system, they can monitor how much you are spending too so you can experiment. But essentially the only way to cut down really is to use less, so heating on at a lower temp or for fewer hours or both.
