Hi everybody.

This January i moved to a property with storage heaters in living room and kitchen. I thought brilliant if it is going to save me some money BUT actually i don't think they work for us (me and little one), we are away from home most of the day and by the time we are home 6 pm ish, the place is not even warm.

i have set them to warm the place 1h in the morning and 2h before bed time but don't know if they don't have the storage capacity to last until the evening......

anybody with them can please advise?

don't fancy paying huge electricity bill to not have a minimum warm home.

thanks

We had storage heaters in our flat. We had a full size in the living room and a half in the main bedroom. TBH it was ok, not sure how much of that was being in a flat so we had heat from neighbours but we did have several external walls.

I can only suggest keeping all doors closed whilst you are out to try and retain as much heat as you can.

we used to top up with an oil filled electric heater at times.

I’m not sure what you mean setting them to warm the place? Ours had a boost button but it didn’t work. I’d suggest getting the user manual for your specific heater so you can use them more efficiently.

If you arent in until later on then you want output set to the minimum during the day and then turn it up once you come home

Do you know how they work? Google your make and model

We have them and they're crap, the heat doesn't last till the evening. I absolutely hate them and they are not even cheap IMO.

Had them for nearly 25-years (no gas) and as long as you program them correctly then they can be very effective (not as flexible as GCH but a decent alternative).
The best thing we did was switch to Econ10 (5hrs at night, 2.5hrs in the afternoon & 2.5hrs in the evening). Meant the NSH were being boosted when otherwise they may have been loosing the heat. Also you never ran out of hot water as it is heated 3-times a day (replaced the Econ7 water tank for a smaller one freeing up valuable airing cupboard space).
Checked recently and several suppliers still offer it as a new product and many more support it if you already have it.

We had them for eight years. And I actually miss them. Yes the heat isn’t great in the evening. But it did keep the house at a nice low temperature during the night. I get up and down a lot in the night time and it was nice to go downstairs and get a drink etc and still be fairly warm. I was never cold.
ours were in the downstairs and one in the hallway upstairs which I never put on as it was never cold enough in the house to have it on upstairs.
Now in my new house I am cold during the night time.
we are also paying about the same for our gas and electric as we were for the storage heaters. I miss them. Even if my husband thinks I’m crazy.

This.

This.

We had them in a flat and turned them off and used convector heaters instead on timers.

We have old storage heaters and they are rubbish. The newer storage heaters are much better and we considering replacing them. It means we could access the cheaper night time rate for our heating.

We had them and I didn’t love them, we bought a calor gas fire, but being on the economy 7 tariff because of them meant I could run the washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher cheaply overnight
