£75 energy bill for a bedsit - is this right?!

Last two energybills have been for a bedsit I dwell in (sorry, 'modern studio') have been £75. Same after I had a smart meter installed.

Is this too high or about right?

No idea what’s your usage and charges?

Sausagelove · 25/08/2022 22:14

Nobody can tell you. It depends what appliances you’re using.

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 25/08/2022 22:15

I upload regular meter readings for my 1 bed all electric flat and the one I did a couple of days ago says I owe £71 for the last 4 weeks so doesn't seem wildy unrealistic.

nannynick · 25/08/2022 22:25

Depends on usage and tariff.
Currently i have some days where mine costs me less than £1 a day. Other days, when washing machine, dishwasher, oven etc have been on it can be up to £3 a day.

If you have an electric shower and spend ages in it, immersion heater which you have on a lot, then it can cost a lot.

The smart meter display will help you to identify how much energy you are using.

What time period?
Gas and/or electricity?
Usage and Tariff?

nannynick · 25/08/2022 22:30

Instead of looking at cost, look at usage.

My studio flat uses a lot more energy in winter than in summer, due to all electric heating.

How can anyone say without the details.

How long is this period over, a month, a year, a week?

What sort of energy?

alwaysmovingforwards · 25/08/2022 22:36

Based on all the information provided, I've calculated that the correct amount is £75.00 / month.

No you're wrong.

Its £82.75

@bellac11

It would appear you've carried the additional kWh residual value into the standby column and made provision for monthly deviations owing to leap years.
Clever, I grant you that and very modern practice.

I'm currently in Jersey and we still use the original 'August adjustment theorem' so old school methodology. It's reliable except when Venus is at a quarter moon, then the Q4 adjustments are unnecessarily complex.

I admit, it was a school girl error

That, and that my calculation was made on an abacus.

Seems a lot to me for summer when the heating is turned off.

Mine for a 3 bed house is out £12/15 a week

electric oven, tumble drier, washing machine, dishwasher, fridge freezer and fridge etc

Mamiamamia · 25/08/2022 23:23

We pay for our actual usage, and have paid around £80 a month for the last 4 months (dual fuel, 5 bed house, 4 of us home all day every day), however it depends completely on your usage and your tarrif. We are on variable tarrif and are very careful with our usage.
