Am I wildly unrealistic to think I can avoid huge fuel bills this winter?

We have lots of fleece blankets, hot water bottles, electric blanket for bed in coldest room, sherpa lined hoodie blanket things, thermal socks. Only drafty part of the house is the front door and I'm going to hang a heavy curtain over it this autumn. My current gas usage is £25 a month which is morning showers.

Am I forgetting how cold it gets? We didn't have central heating as a child.

But there have always been old people. When I was a child the old folk were the generation who had lived through 2 world wars, they delighted in telling my generation how soft we were.

My Dad was one of those people although not that old when I complained about the cold house when I was 15 in 1970. He said central heating would make us soft and we would need fur coats to go out. They did get central heating when I was 17 (although they didn't put a radiator in the bathroom) but I moved out at 18 (to live In freezing cold flats and bed sits).

Apologies if I have missed it and someone has already suggested it, but for drying clothes the Lakeland Dry:Soon heated clothes airers really are fantastic. They’re a bit of an initial outlay but they’re very cheap to run and very effective, especially with the zip up cover over them (or even just a sheet). I have two - the three tier one will easily take a large load of washing and I noticed yesterday that it’s currently on sale.
