With the cost of living on the rise, myself and my family of 5 (me, husband and 3 kids) or 7 if you include two cats.

We have been shopping around for food. Food warehouse is great for fresh and frozen items and we can fill a shopping trolley for under £200 and it lasts us about 3 weeks. It as it’s a 40 min car journey away, it eats the diesel.

We then found the Asda Just Essentials range:

groceries.asda.com/cat/just-essentials/1215686354495

The prices are reasonable and some of the stuff we have tried so far is lovely.

Anyone else given these a try yet?

The jam is okay. The honey is great for cooking. I haven’t tried any of the others yet. I usually buy the own brand baked beans in Asda. Occasionally the own brand soup. I prefer to make my own as it’s cheaper.

Asda have been selling this range for years. All they've done is change the packaging and name.
It's hilarious that people seem to think it's something revolutionary.
If you want to save money on diesel Food Warehouse (which is the same as Iceland) do home delivery. Free if you spend over £40.

InDubiousBattle · 22/08/2022 10:19

They've also extended the range to include more stuff and it's now available in all of their shops(I didn't know it wasn't already tbh).

SatinHeart · 22/08/2022 10:22

The stuff we've had so far has been fine. We've shopped with Asda for years but always done home delivery and until recently the vast majority of the range wasn't available to deliver to us.

I think Asda have rebranded their value range? The processed and ready meals aren't great. Once bought some pasta sauce thinking I'd make a quick cheap dinner and it was inedible.

Some stuff is fine though. I have just cooked spaghetti Bolognese using Asda value tinned tomatoes and spaghetti.

PuttingDownRoots · 22/08/2022 15:05

Weve used a few bits of Asdas value range for ages... big blocks of cheese, and lumps of cooked chicken for example.

Rahrahrahrahannoyed · 22/08/2022 15:12

I use alot of the 'value' ranges and the Asda essentials toilet cleaner for around 30p and the 'rim block' is only 20p. Both are great.
I can't specify enough that I'm glad that these lines exist, they are super helpful. I barely ever buy branded.
*One question I do have is the Asda just essentials disinfectant is labelled as 'disinfectant' but doesn't claim to kill germs like the Dettol/Asda mid brand where it might say 'kills 99.97% of all known germs' for example. It just lists some surfactants as ingredients etc.
Is this a legal thing????
I still bought it and will probably continue to do so.

The bits we've tried so far have been great but I don't think our local store has that many items.

We like...
Pizzas great for DC tea. Add own sweetcorn etc

Grated cheese huge bag only 2.40 we use alot of cheese

Cooking peppers huge bag for 1.35 and mainly red and yellow which are our favourite ones

Biscuits also fine, good to take on days out

HousekeepingBookworm · 22/08/2022 22:25

Yeah I but due to my location, I live in the middle of no where they don’t deliver to us

They've been sneaky with some products. I used to be able to get a 12 pack of smart price crisps for around 80p. Now they've rebranded to Just Essentials, they're the same price for only 6 bags!

Just be careful as their fresh strawberries actually worked out more expensive per kg than the nicer looking strawberries!
