Saving different pots of money

I'm saving for several things, a small amount each month for each thing.

I'd really like some sort of app that would keep a tally of each bit of savings. Does something like that exist?

I know I can lump it all together but I like to have it all set out so it's clear in my mind.

I use Hyper Jar for this. It's free and you can download the app. I'm finding it really useful.

I have a Starling card. It is an app based debit card but there are different "spaces" that you can move money into that keeps it away from the main pot. I have spaces for car expenses and for saving for holidays. Might add one for Christmas/birthdays.

Thank you for those recommendations. I'll have a look.

I just keep a spreadsheet with different columns for different pots that all add up to the total amount in my savings account.

Onlyrainbows · 26/07/2022 10:56

I use monzo

Treesuphooray · 26/07/2022 10:57

I just have multiple savings accounts alongside my current account so that I can see them in my banking app.

Justanothernametoday · 26/07/2022 11:10

I use Plum, it links to your current account (and other accounts if you wish) and uses algorithms to assess how much you can afford to save without really missing it.

You can set up different pots within the app and choose your level of appetite to save. All of these are easily adjusted if you find it's saving too much/little.

It also pays 1.01% interest and offers same day withdrawals.

After struggling to save for years I've just been on holiday with all my spending money saved in advance Smile

Defo Starling - I have Spaces for all sorts of stuff. You can set them to be topped up automatically each month so you don't even see that money in the main account. Interest bearing too.

Same here! The apps look intriguing though!

Monzo I great for exactly that

TwoBlueFish · 26/07/2022 11:14

I have a Chase bank account and it has the ability to create as many spaces as you want for pots of money . It’s app based, no fee, gives 1% cash back and has a 1.5% savings account.

Mumofsons87 · 26/07/2022 11:18

Revolut. It let's you have vaults. You can also share vaults with other people if a partner etc. Is also saving towards the same thing.

DuarPorte · 26/07/2022 11:20

CHASE.

Endless savings accounts with pot names possible with all cool features of starling Monzo etc BUT each also giving 1.5% interest.

I second Plum. It's been a game changer for me. I'm not able to save a lot but it's saving nonetheless. I like that it number crunches for me because it takes the stress out and you can transfer in seconds should you need to.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 26/07/2022 11:35

I also use Starling and highly recommended. I've just added a card for DS which is linked to my account so I control, have various saving spaces and also have added an extra space just for holiday spends with a second card for DP. Its pretty good to use overseas too as no fees.

MerylSqueak · 26/07/2022 23:19

Thank you for the ideas. They're very helpful.

I have a Revolut card

It’s fantastic m! It has really changed my life, honestly!!!

I will paste my referral code. If you use this code we will both receive £50

Join me and over 20 million users who love Revolut. Sign up with my link below: revolut.com/referral/kellyf91u!JUL2-22-AR

you can set up all different pockets of money. It keeps track of all your accounts and you can also round up all your spending to add to a savings vault and you can set spending budgets. I also get a weekly insight on my spending which was scary at first but made me realise how much money I waste

I live this account it’s fantastic and I have literally been telling everyone I know about it

knackeredagain · 28/07/2022 08:12

These apps sound fab! I’ve always just kept a couple of separate bank accounts but I’m going to look into them.

Allthegoodusernamesareused · 28/07/2022 08:37

I've been doing this for years, I just have multiple savings accounts which I can see alongside my current account in my banking app.

BaconAndCheeseOatcake · 28/07/2022 13:39

I used to do the multiple accounts thing but have updated to Monzo and love it. I also use Revolut.

OmaSwims · 28/07/2022 13:49

Another vote for Starling here. I transfer a lump sum in as soon as I'm paid and then it's transferred into several different spaces (I have Christmas, car expenses, holidays, insurance), so I don't have to think about it. I also opened a linked euro account at the same time, get a very good exchange rate and just switch the card between the two when I'm on holiday.
Really works for me

Panatone · 28/07/2022 13:56

Monzo is great op. I love my little pots.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 28/07/2022 14:01

I use starling for day to day spending and use the pots to keep money separate. I also use plum for the round up saving and similar features and that has savings pots too so I can separate money out if I want to.
