Bulb raising my direct debit again

I want to preface this with how I know that my gas/electric bill is low compared to a lot of others. But I’m on maternity leave so it’s actually quite high for me at the moment and I’ve been really careful with my usage to keep it below £80.

so when the cap raised Bulb wanted me to increase my direct debit to £120 to cover my usage based on their predictions.
this was an increase from £60pm which was my highest bill that previous year.
there is no way I would be using £120pm so I set the direct debit at £80. I had £140 in credit with them too so I also skipped a month to reduce the credit balance.

my direct debit of £80 has covered my usage since the increase with my statements ranging between 70 and 80pm
so today they update the app to say they are increasing my direct debit to £86pm as my £80 doesn’t cover my usage
yet my recent bill was £74.
I am £59 in credit.
I know it’s only £6 increase but it makes no sense.
I went on the app and clicked help with payments to see what would happen and it tells me I can reduce my direct debit based on my usage so contradicting its reason for increase.

im not really after any advice just annoyed.
i saves up for maternity leave and am determined to spend a year with my daughter before I return to work.

Typically energy companies expect people to be building up a significant surplus in the summer to help cover bill's in winter. If your energy is £70 now, given there's going to be a huge increase in unit price in oct plus the winter coming it's likely to cost you more like 150 for 3/4 months at least over the colder period. If it's that you will have more money then so are happy to deal with that when it happens that you could maybe call them. Personally I'm building up as much as I can now in credit to try and cover myself.

I return to work in October so will be ready to deal with the increase then.
last winter my bills didn’t change from summer months - I live in a middle terrace new build and it is so warm we didn’t need the heating on.

Hi OP. I had this with Bulb. They set my DD at £270 but I'm only using £100 or so a month, the app wouldn't let me change it so I went on to the website and the live chat. All I needed to say was "my DD is x, I'm only using Y, the app won't let me lower it, can't afford to pay the extra." And the rep lowered it for me there and then, no further questions asked. The App is still telling me it's too low, but the agent said not to worry about that.
