So I went along to one today, after asking if we'd be eligible. I was so nervous, not sure why as they were really nice.

You pay either £5 for a family or £3 (I think) for a single person, for this you can choose a number of things from the fridges, shelves and fruit and veg. There was also some cosmetics.

Anyway it was fine, so just posting to mention this to anyone as I hear there are many around the place.

Yes we have one on our road now in the local library. This one is free the food is on its last date so needs eating that day. Often they have milk, cheese, fruit and veg.

Ours had all sorts of nice things such as those Binghams pies which cost around £9- you could choose up to 4...(we had to give those a miss as don't eat red meat though) Also lots of fruit and veg, some nice tomatoes on the vine, and a massive coco pops!

There's one in our town, everything is free. Sometimes they have so much that they post on Facebook, begging people to go and take stuff away.

Just bumping this as thought it might help others.

We have one near my work. Sometimes they give me food because it's literally going in the bin (they close at the same time I finish, they know me due to my job, part of which refers people to them!) I had sour dough bread, milk, cream and apples yesterday, the first 3 went out of date/stale yesterday they could fill a skip with the apples, everyone is dropping them off there!

If you are food insecure please check your local one out, it's not the same as a food bank, no limit on visits (ours requests once per week max but doesn't keep records), you don't need a written referral and much of it is literally saving from the waste, no need to feel guilty

I'm finding it is good for things I would otherwise be cutting out on. They seem to get quite high end, often organic foods.
