Cheap but effective deoderant? (not home made please)

Hi,

I'm looking at ways to cut back on my toiletries but the one thing that I am having difficulty with is identifying the best deoderant to use...

I need it to be a non-spray deoderant as I am asthmatic and aerosols get on my chest, and I need one that works all day. Ideally one suitable for both me as a perimenopausal woman and my pre-teen (12) year old daughter!

Can anyone recommend an effective but non expensive deoderant? Happy to buy in bulk too but I really don't want to be going down the homemade route for now...

I used to use expensive deodorants and was self-conscious because even they didn't work very well. Once I started washing with bar soap instead of shower gel, I found that even cheap roll-on deodorants worked very well.

I use a crystal deodorant stone. It doesn't stop you sweating but it keeps me odour free. I just rub it on wet armpits straight after my shower.
They literally last for years - I've had this one for three years and it's barely worn down at all.
They are not always effective for everyone but would be worth trying to see if it works for you.

I use Mitchum stick after seeing it recommended by many parents of autistic girls. It's perfect for me. Not sticky and very effective (the pink/yellow versions anyway, I tried a more expensive version once and it was shit). £2 on a clubcard deal at Tesco every so often or buy on Amazon subscription you can get them even cheaper. They last absolutely ages though.

I use the sanex roll on. Can usually find them for £1 somewhere - savers, wilkos.

countydown1989 · 06/04/2022 11:55

The Mitchum Unscented roll on changed my life. I used to have smelly sweat so easily and since using it I have never had that problem again. It's incredible and £1 and lasts months

Bagelsandbrie · 06/04/2022 11:56

Aldi roll on is fantastic. I’m a convert from Mitchum. For about 40p you can’t go wrong.

KirstenBlest · 06/04/2022 11:59

Sanex stick or roll-on from the pound shop.
Savers and Wilko are often cheaper than the £1 shop

Agree with PP about using bar soap not shower gel.Cheaper and cleans properly.Use it instead of handwash too

Seasidemumma77 · 06/04/2022 12:30

After years of only buying dove roll-on, I've switched to Aldi own one

Invisimamma · 06/04/2022 12:48

Sure roll-on from Amazon in bulk, around £1 each.

TunnelOfGoats · 06/04/2022 12:52

The nivea roll ons are great, and are 95p is each. I've tried loads and this is the best by far I've found

rookiemere · 06/04/2022 15:49

I think Mithchum roll on is fantastic.

Mrscaptainraymondholt · 06/04/2022 16:00

thank you everyone! plenty to try and I will switch to bar soap in the shower! already use it for hands and the bath but will try the shower too Grin

Dove roll on blue lid. Used it for more than 15 years always pay £1 it's the best

Fabvegetablegrower · 06/04/2022 16:16

Sure is made in Russia just saying.

gogohm · 06/04/2022 16:21

Lidl cien one is fine, I get the no white residue one, have done for years. I also buy their fake tresume shampoo and condition, their lemon shower gel, moisturiser etc. if you don't have one locally it's with a trip every couple of months. I prefer their loo roll too

Rupertpenrysmistress · 06/04/2022 16:23

Mitchum roll on, no white marks scented or unscented. I work 13 hrs as a peri menopausal nurse and this stuff work. Usually on offer and seems to last ages.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 06/04/2022 16:25

If you use fabric softener in the wash switch it for Dettol anti-bac washing machine liquid. I could never get the sweaty smell out of Dds shirts despite her showering every morning and using Mitchums, once I started to use dettol though the sweaty smell disappeared.

malificent7 · 07/04/2022 12:24

I second the salt rock one...i think it is much better for your skin too. After a year it's still going strong! Initial outlay was £6 but it's worth it.

Fuckityfucksake · 07/04/2022 12:54

Another for Mitchum.
Also if a sweat smell is a problem - use some diluted teatree oil on a cotton ball after showering and apply it under the armpits. Do it a few times a week until the sweat stops smelling, then once a week is enough (for my DH anyway) It deals with the bacteria on the skin/in the sweat glands causing the smell rather than masking it.

Bedsheets4knickers · 08/04/2022 08:25

Another vote for Mitchum and you only need a tiny bit it's that good .

Silverclocks · 08/04/2022 08:28

I like the Dove invisible roll on, which you can often get for £1 in places like Savers and Wilko, but actually the Lidl imitation which is (I think) 59p is pretty good too.

Mrsjayy · 08/04/2022 08:30

use the sanex roll on. Can usually find them for £1 somewhere - savers, wilkos.

I use this its very effective, and yes a £1 from savers.

Lolly86 · 08/04/2022 08:30

Mitchum 100%

Mrsjayy · 08/04/2022 08:31
