New seller on Vinted - can anyone help?

Hi all wondering if you can help out

I’m just about to set myself up on Vinted and have a couple of questions I can’t find clear answers to on their app.

I don’t have a home printer so am I right in saying my only options are Yodel drop shops where label can be printed in store using a QR code Vinted will send?
Or I use Royal Mail and pay up front and use handwritten label then get reimbursed later? With this one how will my buyer know the cost?

Had hoped to use Hermes and InParcel lockers but as I’ve no printer they aren’t options. I’ve noticed many sellers have postage starting as free, guessing it’s coz they can print their own labels.

Second - I’m worried I’ll end up choosing wrong parcel size. I was going to use kitchen scales to weigh, any other tips?

Beginning to think it may not be worth the hassle for the paltry £ I’ll make 😳

Any other tips for a newbie seller hugely appreciated!

Some Hermes drop offs offer a print in store option. The times that a buyer has used Royal Mail I have had to print out the prepaid postage label so that may not be an option for you.

You can choose custom postage but I have never used that so I'm not sure what it entails.

I quite new to it myself so haven't got any tips but I do prefer it to eBay for ease of use and the fact that there are no fees for sellers.

Thanks Nursie Smile

I also don't have a means of printing so set all items to custom shipping only and charge the Royal mail fee (usually £3.20). It means I have to pay the postage myself initially but then get it reimbursed when I recieve payment Smile

I go to my local library and use their printing services. It's 15p a sheet to print.

Ahh so is it a set price according to parcel size?

Sadly we no longer have a library close by.

Yes. It gives you examples depending on what the item is.

JessicaPeach · 17/02/2022 20:56

Familiarise yourself with the Royal Mail parcel/letter weights and sizes because Vinted suggest on the small side in my experience to make postage costs more attractive to the buyer. If it's more than say 1 thin top it's almost certainly going to be small parcel which is £3.20 for up to 2kg in weight (and I forget the dimensions but you need to keep an eye on the thickness of the parcel)

If you offer bundle discounts and someone buys a bundle from you then you have rhe opportunity to weigh it all and choose a postage option to suit the weight and size of the bundle.

JessicaPeach · 17/02/2022 20:58

I bought two baby cardigans earlier this week and was charged £1.99 postage which must have been what Vinted suggested to the seller but when she sent me the proof of postage she'd paid £3.20. Made no difference in cost to me but the cardies were only £2.50 so she's made nothing on them now really

Thanks everyone this is helpful.

Good point re bundles and Riyal Mail Peach. I'm starting to reconsider if it's even worth bothering for my piddly pile of clothes Grin

I sell loads of baby clothes on there and I find it really easy. It's much easier if you have a printer though. I price my stuff to sell so don't really have much trouble shifting it. Some people want absolutely insane amounts for their old stuff!

I don't have a printer either . I just go to my local newsagents that offer the print service . So easy . Examples of parcel size are clearly explained . Buyer does the hard work and lays postage . I love Vinted . Btw if I sell I always add a little gift & wrap it nicely , guarantees a 5 star review

cats, can I ask which shipping methods you offer? If I ask on my local NextDoor platform there may be a shop closer than I think where I could print which may give me more shipping options.

Hi , I offer all the shipping options available as they are all so easy .

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 22/02/2022 11:10

Hi all

So I sold my first item last night, woo hoo! Actually made a small profit too so chuffed to bits. Disclaimer - I was given a free bump which meant that within minutes someone grabbed it and it was quite a niche item of sports wear so those factored helped. I know much more leg work is required for my other bits.

As it turns out I've loads of Yodel points close by which print, a few I can either walk to easily or regularly drive past to do other errands. although the chap in the garage shop did a massive eye role ... they must do loads!

But thanks for your replies ... I'm feeling very encouraged Grin

UPDATE

Thanks to you lot encouraging me and giving advice I've just done my 20th sale on Vinted and have so far made £200!!

That's without buying a printer and not pricing ridiculously low , I'm so chuffed!

I've interacted with so many lovely buyers who have all loved their items so it's been a real win/win Grin

Thanks again you lot - MN at it's best!

@tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz

Amazing well done! I've signed up today

What do you find sells the best?

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 27/06/2022 16:50

Hello 😊

My husbands old football shirts/shorts go very quickly (still in great condition) and I never get haggled down. In retrospect we should probably have priced slightly higher.

Mango and Zara, the newer the better.

Other than that my sales are very random with no real pattern.

Jewellery is S L O W probably not helped by fact my shipping is Yodel so £ of that is almost same as the item.

I've still not done a single bundle sale.

OP posts:
Throughtheroof · 09/07/2022 19:54

I've just sold one item and and have one for sale.
But it says that postage is 'from £0.00'

I've attached a photo.

I don't understand this or know how to change it. It said the same on the item I sold so I had to leave it.

New seller on Vinted - can anyone help?
tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 12/07/2022 22:02

I've read on the Vinted forum you often get free delivery on first sale/purchase although I've never had that 🙁
