Fix before price cap rises?

I'm getting confused about the advice Re energy bills. Surely it's best to fix before the price cap rise?
Please tell me if I'm wrong!

But any fixed rate will already have taken into account the price cap rise.
So, then you are looking at what you think will happen in October, and if the fixes on offer now will be above or below the rise announced then.

I think the advice is still not to fix, and go with the price cap, be a use wholesale prices are,way above even the price cap, unless you find a freaky good deal.

Hello @moveblues ! Just popping by to say that we’ve just gone live with a Q&A with charity National Energy Action about these energy price rises – whether you want to know what’s going on, what support you’re entitled to or how to prepare. Open to questions now and they’ll be answering questions live on Wednesday at 12 noon. The thread is here.

There's no way to answer as it depends on what rates you've been offered.

What fixed rates are you considering?

I am with octopus, they offered me a fixed rate that would be £410 a month, i phoned them today and staying on the variable I’ll be paying £290 so I would give them a ring

dementedpixie · 15/03/2022 13:27

I stayed on the variable rate with Octopus as the fixed rates they are offering are ridiculously high

dementedpixie · 15/03/2022 13:31

Have you had your personalised email with your tariff if you choose the standard variable rate (flexible octopus)?

KittenKong · 15/03/2022 16:15

Just got a ‘revise your dd payments’ email - from £120 to £300 a month. Jeez-o!

We went round and round with what to do. We’ve gone for solar panels 🤷‍♀️ Let’s see how that works out 🌞

MintyFreshBreath · 15/03/2022 17:26

To give an idea, we went from paying £94pcm for gas and electric to £101pcm just electric 😬 (we moved and our new house has no gas) Our hot water and heating costs around £75pcm from a heat pump thing.
