Address number for gas supply?

I tried to switch today and was asked for what the current supplier had the gas meter registered as, something about a plot number rather than a house number. He said he just had a list of numbers but needed to confirm which was mine. I was told to look on my bill but couldn't see anything. Later I noticed these MPAN and MPRN numbers. Can anyone tell me if one of those is it before I phone back next week?

Also, it is a bad idea to fix right now right? I wanted the variable but he was trying to get me to fix. I'm switching because I'm on a green variable tariff that is exempt from the cap.

MPAN is electric, and MPRN is gas

Is the house quite new? It could be the builder hasnt registered the address with royal mail yet, so noone believes you exist. We had to use the builders plot number for a bit.

Thanks, is that what they were likely asking for? I didn't see it at the time!

We are registered with Royal mail, I think it's early 2000s.

20 yrs old isnt what I was thinking of as new. 20 months perhaps, tops, so it's not that.

Maybe not that old, I don't remember, just a not new new-build. I think it's a independent gas transporter or something though?

Yes, if you quote the MPRN number on your current bill, that is all the info they will need to transfer your supply :)

Regarding fix vs variable.
Martin Lewis from Money Saving Expert has an article on this in this weeks email.
Some companies are trying to get people to fix even though it isn't the best option for them, so be wary.

@RainingYetAgain
Yes, he was trying to convince me to fix. Even though the fixed would have been more than it's meant to go up to in April. It might go up more than the fixed rate in October but I doubt it's worth paying so much more from now until then.

Sorry but I might be wrong about the MSE newsletter . I have just looked at my emails and the detailed message came from the MSE Cheap Energy Club newsletter. Might be worth enrolling
