You may be entitled to contributions based JSA for 6 months

I would read up on the website, however I don’t think anything triggers anything in the benefits system you are responsible for making any claims and making them aware of any changes.

You have to apply for UC for job seeking benefits

purpleme12 · 23/12/2021 20:33

oh right ok thank you

It depends. Are you single or part of a couple?

Couple- you may remain entitled to working tax credits if partner still works.

Single - you’ll need to claim UC to get money for children, esa income based and housing costs.

Give the CAB help to claim line a call. They can advise whether your change will trigger a claim to UC and go through it with you.

purpleme12 · 23/12/2021 20:40

oh right ok that's not so good then
i'm single. with a child. so i will need help for her
although i own so not sure i'll be entitled to housing costs

No you won’t get housing costs as you own. However you will get the higher work allowance. You might find you are better off on UC.

Have a look at policy in practice benefit Calculator. It’s better than entitled to.

Yes. If you need to claim you'll have to apply for universal credits.

i think this just tells you you need to tell them about any change in circumstances it doesn't say if it will move you onto UC as far as i can see

RoastedParsnips · 24/12/2021 11:57

You can't claim job seekers/esa/income support anymore so you'll be forced onto universal credit which will close your tax credits claim. Unfortunately there is no way round it op.

CorrBlimeyGG · 24/12/2021 12:09

You can claim contributions based JSA.

Are you receiving CTC and WTC currently? How long do you think it will take to find a new job?

purpleme12 · 24/12/2021 12:19

yes i am receiving wtc and ctc
i have no idea how long it would take me to find a job to be honest.
i've been in this job for over 10 years

CorrBlimeyGG · 24/12/2021 12:32

If you lose your job then you can stay on WTC for four weeks between jobs. As you're a lone parent you'd need to find something for sixteen hours to qualify to continue your claim, that can be self employed or employed.

Speak to CAB and ask them to do a benefit check up, to be certain whether you'll be best to stay on tax credits or move to UC. But if you're better off as you are, then try to find anything, even if it's just a stop gap, within four weeks to keep your claim open.

Theunamedcat · 24/12/2021 12:34

If you can find another job now then no sorry
