hi, I am a full time working and furloughed single mother on Universal Credit, I was thinking to reduce my hours to 30 because it is too much for me. My child is 3,5 and going to nursery but I am not able to take her there because I start too early. I would like to reduce my hours and start 2 hrs later and it would be exactly 30hrs per week. My boss is ok with it. I know my U C will be different and the whole situation will be = less money. But I am exhaustedafter 3 years of full time ( I came back to work when she was a few months old) and now because of the whole stress I have thyroid problems. I need to slow down. so, I need to reduce my hrs. Now my question is:how should I inform Universal Credit about it. Does it matter for Universal Credit if it is my own decision or my boss? And, should I inform them at all or just my salary will be lower andautomatically reduce myUC ? I don't want to make a mistake, maybe someone for you was in that situacion please, and would be happy to advise me a little bit? Thank you

It shouldn't make much difference to UC. You are still very much employed and your earnings won't change dramatically once tax and insurance are taken into consideration.
You can get away without mentioning it as you won't have a work coach who is looking after less/unemployed people.
Just do it. You won't need to report the change and you can work out how your UC will be affected by using the work allowance and 63% calculation.

You don’t need to tell anyone. Your reduced earnings will be notified to UC by HMRC when you are paid. With a 3.5 year old your expected working hours is 16 per week so you are working more than enough for them to take any notice.
