Ring them. They really are kind and helpful. I am on a payment plan to pay off my cards. I was so anxious about calling them but they really were so kind. Burying your head in the sand is the worst thing you could do.

Ring StepChange debt charity. They do a budget with you to make sure you've got enough money to cover household bills and your day to day costs like food, clothes, travel etc. Then they look at what debts you have and advise on you on more affordable debt solutions or repayments to help you manage.

Definitely start with an independent charity like StepChange or CAP - the credit card company's priority is to get as much out of you in terms of repayments as possible, and not all of the lenders give their staff the training to be able to make a decision about when to push and when to negotiate. The charities will be more realistic about how much money you can afford to be repaying. Then they can help you to plan how to approach your credit card company with a repayment plan.

How bad is your is your debt?
How many payments have you missed and were they on consecutive months.
Are you able to over pay the minimum payment required?

I have just this month become debt free for the first time in 15 years. My debt was all credit cards, overdraft and at one point a loan.
Generally I would say, as scary as it feels, don't ignore the problem, ignoring it will only make it worse.
What's your situation? Perhaps I can offer advice?

Please do contact the CC company or somewhere like StepChange. I did, about 6 years ago, and will be completely debt free in 4 months' time, for the first time in nearly 30 years. Ive even managed to accumulate some savings over the past year, thanks to not having to commute. It's such a fantastic feeling not being brassic the day after payday!
