How do I build my credit rating now my DRO has finished?

A few months ago I was released from my debt relief order so although I have no debts, I have a rock bottom credit rating.
Where do I start building it again?
I thought about putting fuel and food on a credit card and each month and paying it in full religiously each month.
What do you advise?
Thank you for reading.

Did your creditors default your accounts with them?

Good. Your credit file will not significantly improve for at least 5 years after the end of the DRO. Your creditors should have default dates either earlier than the DRO or the same date as that. All defaults remain on credit files for 6 years.

It is hard but you will have to live with the fact that your credit file will not improve very much at all not matter how hard you try for the next 5 years at least. Flowers

This website is really good DebtCamel. Have a read of what she says. It will all help you a lot

I finished a DRO about 4 years ago and my credit score is only starting to improve properly now. All my creditors put defaults on my accounts. Some are still there and a few have started to drop off.
My credit score has gone from zero to about 600 now so it’s in the “fair/stable” range.
If I use my credit card these days I make sure the full balance is paid off each month. I avoid things like store cards and I make sure all my bills are never paid a day late.

Having a credit card just for fuel and paying in full is good.

If you rent, look into the rental exchange scheme where you rent payments are logged in the same way as mortgage payments. Make sure you are in the electoral register. A credit card correctly managed will help. Loqbox is worth looking into again as payments are logged into you credit file.
