I logged on to see confirmation of the amount of our universal payment. It gives a breakdown of the couples amount plus the child element. There is no reduction due to my earnings which I had roughly worked out would be £252 (.63 for cx every £ earned over £512). We gave them my employment info so they are aware. I don't want to spend it if they are going to ask for it back again. Should this amount have been deducted?

You can message them directly on the website to ask any question. Write a note as a service issue on your diary.

mrshoho · 03/05/2020 08:23

Thank you I'm going to do that now.

What's your salary pay date and when is your UC payment due?

Your employer reports payroll information to HMRC every month, and the information about your salary will be shared by HMRC with the DWP, then your UC calculation will be adjusted. So it's probably just that the information hasn't come through yet.

mrshoho · 03/05/2020 09:08

I get paid on 15th and the UC payment is due to be paid on 6th May. I did notice on my pay slip last month the pay date was changed to 30th but I still got the money on 15th. I wondered if it had something to do with our UC application. I've put a question on my journal.

OP posts:
AnotherEmma · 03/05/2020 09:20

Was the pay date they gave 30th March or 30th April? If it was 30th April it should be counted in the calculation for your payment on 6th May. Anyway you've done the right thing leaving a message on your journal.

mrshoho · 03/05/2020 09:56

Yes it was the 30th April so I assumed that they would calculate our payment taking into account my earnings. We have told them who my employer is and that I'm part time paye employed. I though it would be quite straightforward but wishful thinking Grin

Also I applied with our local authority for a reduction in council tax a month ago but have heard nothing. I logged on to see that they require lots of documents to confirm identity/address etc to be handed to them in person or originals sent in the post. As my dh is shielding this isn't possible so I'm trying to ring them but I thought they would be able to link through to our UC account as we did all the identity checks on line. I feel like just cancelling the council tax dd. I'm sure they'd be in touch pretty quickly!

"I'm sure they'd be in touch pretty quickly!"

Why did you think this? You do know there's been a huge surge in benefit claims, right?!

I would advise you to scan or take photos of the documents they want, sent them by email and ask if they still need any originals. Give it a few days and if they don't reply to your email just call them.

I don't suppose they will expect anyone to visit in person to deliver documents, but they might still want you to send originals in the post. Not sure why DH shielding means you can't go to the post office?

mrshoho · 03/05/2020 10:20

Thanks I'm going to try and speak with someone on Monday. I could go to to the post office but given we are not able to shield him within our home (it's tiny and he has nowhere else to go apart from his mother's!) I'm trying to avoid higher transmission risk places. We live in an area of London that has a high rate.

Oh I had no expectation they would contact us quickly to potentially pay us benefits. I meant that if we stopped paying altogether they would be in touch pdq!

Ah sorry, i misunderstood!

Flummingbird · 03/05/2020 10:29

If you go into the payments section and select this month then scroll down it should have a section that tells you how much you have earned this months that has been taken into account, do your wages show in there? It breaks all their workings out down for you...

AnotherEmma · 03/05/2020 10:34

One relevant thing which I forgot to ask - do you know what your assessment period is? It should say when you log in and look at the figures.

mrshoho · 03/05/2020 10:37

Grin no worries Emma

Thanks Flumming No there are no earnings details at all. Under deductions it says the minimum income floor does not apply and the deductions figure is £0.

OP posts:
mrshoho · 03/05/2020 10:43

Emma the assessment period says 31st March - 29th April 2020 and will be paid 6th May.

OP posts:
AnotherEmma · 03/05/2020 10:46

Ah Well in that case the answer is clear.
If the official pay dates as reported by your employer were 30th March and 30th April, you didn't actually get paid in your assessment period.
It's a weird assessment period though as it should be 31st March - 30th April. You did well to query it.

Lllot5 · 03/05/2020 10:47

So if you were paid on 30 th April it’s not been counted yet.

mrshoho · 03/05/2020 10:47

ooh I get it now as my pay slip says 30th April it won't be included in this assessment (I think?)

OP posts:
AnotherEmma · 03/05/2020 10:48

Exactly.

8dayweek · 03/05/2020 10:51

The Assessment Period is right - last day of the month until the day before last day of the month (so both will be a variable date depending on number of days in the month).

AnotherEmma · 03/05/2020 10:52

Ah OK thanks!

mrshoho · 03/05/2020 10:54

Even more strange as I actually got paid on 15th and before we did the UC claim my pay slip always had the 15th as the pay date. I wasnt sure if it was that my Employer was changing their dates or if it was connected to our UC as I'd hear people had problems with 5 week months etc. I'm going to ask them as checking with colleagues they say theirs still have 15th.

OP posts:
AnotherEmma · 03/05/2020 10:57

Did you ask your employer about the different date on your payslip? If they've made a mistake they'll have to correct it with HMRC which means your UC will be recalculated.

mrshoho · 03/05/2020 11:04

I'm going to speak to them Emma and find out. it seems too good to be true that we are entitled to it!
