DH has done 2 food shop an online order then a fresh order. Spent over £500, all for ONE fricking day!!! We have 2DDs under 10. Not massive eaters.

A lot of the money has gone to booze!!! We are not massive drinker either. To me all seems just so wasteful.

Every year I get the girls new PJs for tonight. It's lovely, then he just said we haven't got them much for xmas. Wrap that up as a present!!

They have enough. There are not masses of presents under the tree. But they're the ones both girls have requested and would love!!! Stockings full of little bits. 3x presents something they want/ need / useful

Am I the only one gets annoyed for over spending and consumerism?????

Rant over .....🤣

To add salt to the injury, I was getting some smoked salmon out for lunch which I purchased during the week, he said he was going to use the salmon for canapes!!! WTAF!!!

At Christmas he goes crazy.... we eat very well normally btw

Was Waitrose+ Sainsbury's
Some Beef thing/ Turkey / scallops I lost interest after he told me the cost!!!

Watching master chef has obviously gone to his head!!! Anyway I might as well enjoy it!!

Merry Christmas 🍷

I'll make him eat beans on toast for the entire Jan lol

Holy crap!!! I only spent £280 and that's for 4 adults 2 kids for 3 days with a ton of booze. What was he buying for £500 quid?

PuppyMonkey · 24/12/2019 20:13

lost interest after he told me the cost

Lol indeed.Confused

VeryMerryChristmas · 24/12/2019 20:13

That’s a big spend for sure, but we’ve spent £450 on food and drink for 24th/25th/26th for just 4 of us.

That does include a fair amount of booze and some party food, as we have a few visitors, but I can see how it could easily be done. Our meat, smoked salmon, cheese etc came to over £100 easily. Booze another £100+.

If you’re not happy with it, though, it’s a problem. DH and I agreed on our food spend for Christmas. I’d be pissed off (and vice versa) if one of us spent £500 shopping without consultation.

Jumpi · 24/12/2019 20:16

£500? For 4 people? Even with all meats and seafood, how did he get anywhere near £500?

maras2 · 24/12/2019 20:17

Not funny though is it?

Lexplorer · 24/12/2019 20:17

Flipping heck. It's a roast dinner with crackers. £500??? And others agreeing! Gobsmacked! 😱

cantfindname · 24/12/2019 20:21

I thought I had seen this years record breaker with the very elderly lady in front of me in Tesco. She said it was only going to be her and equally elderly DH but managed to spend £180. Bet that's going to be a whole load of landfill.

daisychain01 · 24/12/2019 20:22

I don't get the point of this thread.

ArranUpsideDown · 24/12/2019 20:22

Am I the only one gets annoyed for over spending and consumerism?

If the booze can be returned unopened then that might help?

As for the rest, enjoy what you can without such intrusive thoughts of the cost that it spoils it for you and others.

BarbaraofSeville · 24/12/2019 20:23

If it's mostly booze, it's not like it goes off, so just drink it over the coming months?

Freeze what food you can and let him work out the order in which he's going to use up the perishable stuff?

Pumpkinsoup22 · 24/12/2019 20:26

I was behind a guy today whose Sainsbury bill was just short of £700. He did comment that his wife was working al day and he didn't want to forget anything Grin

Topseyt · 24/12/2019 20:28

ShockShockShock

£500!!

DogInATent · 24/12/2019 20:31

I would LOVE to know what he bought - that is nuts

£500. That's a lot of nuts.

rslsys · 24/12/2019 20:33

I sort of get it. I speak as one who was asked to pick up a litre of semi-skimmed on the way home and emerged, some time later having spent £148 . . .

ScreamingValalalalahLalalalah · 24/12/2019 20:34

Alcohol soon shoves your shopping bill up!

PlumsGalore · 24/12/2019 20:36

That’s silly food money. I spent 180 in Sainsbury’s and another 48 in Tesco. 7 adults, rate of beer, grate of pip, six bottles of wine, joint of beef, small turkey crown,. Seriously nuts.

Apackoflips · 24/12/2019 20:38

Wow. I was behind a woman in Sainsburys yesterday and her basket was full of all of the lovely things you see in the magazine. Almost everything was from the extra special range and was very eye catching. It looked like she was catering for 4 .
The man on the check out remarked that he was going round to hers on Xmas day given the standard of food she was buying. Grin
The total came to about £130 but there was no booze in it though.

As you say OP . Its done now so just sit back and enoy the largess.

Oblomov19 · 24/12/2019 20:38

I could spend £500 easily. I spent £150 at Sainsbury's. A few more bottles of wine and a few more chocolates. £500? No problem.

selmabear · 24/12/2019 20:39

I thought I was bad for spending £160!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 24/12/2019 20:40

Well the booze will keep so that doesn't really matter.

That really depends.

If you would have eventually bought the booze anyway, will happily drink it all and have no cash-flow issues, then it probably doesn't matter.

If it leaves you short of funds for more essential/urgent purchases - or even to be able to meet your basic bills in the meantime - then not so much....

Pegase · 24/12/2019 20:40

We spend £500 when we are hosting. Meat including free-range turkey, ham, smoked salmon, seafood etc is over £100. Alcohol inc champagne a fair bit although the spirits obviously last more than the week.

Not good if you haven't planned it together of course.

Pegase · 24/12/2019 20:41

That is for ten people not four though.

FestiveFavourites · 24/12/2019 20:43

If you can afford to blow 500 quid on festive food and drink, then stop fretting. If you will be in debt and still paying off the credit card in the summer, then it's different.
Some people spend loads, others spend very little. Just have a good Christmas, enjoy the food, the drink, the faces of your children as they open their gifts.
