I want to set up an ironing service but i am not sire how to go about it. I dont iron much myself but i am sure i can do it. How much would you charge and would you charge per piece?

I always wonder - what happens if you damage something? Like scorch a fancy blouse.... Do you get insurance?!

Price per item I think. Otherwise you'll get cheeky beggars stuffing bin bags etc.

Do you offer delivery? Hangers?

If you don't iron, are you sure you can do it? Quality iron & board. Perhaps practice first.

I always say if you need to ask how to start a business then it's probably not for you. Sorry, but it's not something you generally ask. Those that are capable of running their own business just get on with it.

Thats utter bollocks Mrfartpanrs...lots of people ask for business advice and you know it!

Of course people ask for advice, but not something as simple as that. They also know they can provide the service as it's something they already do.

And out of all of those who ask, how many actually start a business? I'd love you to prove me wrong, I really would, but generally if you need to ask such basic questions then I don't think you're the right type of person.

Here's what I will do though. If in the future you do get up and running, I'm willing to print you some leaflets completely free of charge to advertise your business. Just contact me here if you get to that stage. And that's a genuine offer too, from somebody already in business :)

Is your ironing going to be good enough if you don’t already do it?

It takes some time to learn how to do most skills well enough to be paid.

If you don't iron much are you going to be fast enough to make much money? I'm thinking about how quickly you can iron a shirt, for example.

There are a couple of ironing services out there. Have a Google of their websites and see how they prices things up. Ihateironing.com is one that springs to mind.

Once you've worked out a pricing structure and what services you'll offer (collect/drop off etc) then I'd start off by advertising on a local Facebook selling site.

I ironed from home for a year or so. I just put simple photocopied leaflets through doors.

I was inundated with business, you actually don’t need many people as customers.

I can’t remember how much I charged, but I just researched it by finding out what other ironers were charging.

Good luck.
