Cheap Energy Suppliers

I need to switch energy suppliers because I just had a horrible bill. I've been trying to use less, but my quarterly bill is £100 more than the same quarter last year for some unexplained reason. But, who do I switch to?

I like to pay quarterly bills so I can't use Octopus as they only do direct debits and seem a bit over keen on smart meters. I think the same applies to Robin Hood, but I'm not sure.

I've been with British Gas, Npower and currently with EDF, so I won't use any of those again.

Who is good, cheap and doesn't harass people to get a smart meter?

I'm with So Energy. Really good customer service and decent bills. They are a small company and so don't install smart meters.

Thanks Annoyed. I will have a look at them.

We are currently with Flow Energy. Switched to them through the money saving expert energy club (received £40 cash back too) and would recommend them (depending if they are cheapest for you) as their customer service is spot on. It's all done online. I can view all statements, give meter readings etc. They review account every 6 months and are really easy to contact via email/online partial and always good at replying etc. We aren't tied in so could move but i've decided to stay because they're so easy to deal with. I've had bad experiences with energy suppliers in the past so I'm really good at taking regular meter readings and keeping a check in everything.

Thanks Brilliant.

Has anyone been with an energy company long-term and not had dramatic price increases? I am a bit fed up that I have to keep switching. It would be nice to not feel like I'm being ripped off for being a loyal long-term customer.

I've just signed up to my third (or fourth?) year with So Energy. No big leaps from them.

I'm just about to try TOTO who quoted £79 pcm. I was paying £155 with Shell so had to do something. Interested to see if there's a hike as soon as I settle in though.

I'm with Utility Warehouse, have been for several years and haven't had any huge price rises. They are currently locking their prices for another year, you can get cash back to come off of your bills too.

I’m with Bulb, they seemed to come up as one of the cheapest on most of the price comparison sites I checked when I was switching, plus it’s 100% renewable energy if you care about that. I haven’t been with them for years so I don’t know about price rises, but they only have one tariff so there wouldn’t be the problem of them switching you to a higher tariff after the initial offer runs out(which is what happened with my last supplier). They sent me a referral offer this week for £75 so if you sign up with this link(bulb.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=4834935b227d653db6d9f1a11&id=ff099aa406&e=0c8552b725) we would both get £75 off our bill, so that’s a saving already. You would also get a referral link if you joined so that you can refer others and get £50 off your bill each time. I once read on here that one poster posted her referral link in a Facebook group and 6 people signed up from it so she got £300 off her bill, but it depends if you’re the type of person that would bother to do that

Having looked at switching energy companies a lot recently; this may be of some use to people

teacupbubble · 10/10/2019 20:50

£50 Account credit for switching and amazing service!!

The quote and switch only took a couple of minutes and is very informative. I know people that have previously been with them and all their information and communication is clear and easy to understand.

An energy company with low rates, no exit fees and good service! Can't ask for more.

• Low rates
• No exit fees
• Fixed rates
• 100% renewable electricity
• 4.5 star Trust Pilot Rating
• 4.5 star Money Saving Expert rating

I switched using someone's referral code, which worked perfectly £50 FREE CREDIT to switch. (copy and paste the link into your browser, remove the 🎁)

Another Bulb user here, the projected saving against EDF was over £600.
I’m still sticking with their suggested monthly payment and after 9 months I’m £240 in credit. Expect to reduce that surplus in the next 3 months but so far their projection is looking OK.
Found them via Money Saving Expert.

I'm with Bulb too.
One of the benefits (other than green and good prices). You can change your own direct debit amount on a regular basis. So you can change it up in a month if it has been a cheap month or drop it down - I think the minimum is £15, if you have an expensive month. Obviously you need to cover your bills but the flexibility can help so long as you can put in extra some months
