Home insurance renewal quote

Probably a stupid question!
I've just received our annual home insurance quote and it has gone up by just over £50.
We have no previous claims on it and
I usually pay for the full year upfront.
Is it better to find a cheaper quote through price comparison sites and just switch or is it possible to haggle with the provider to get a better deal like you can with broadband providers?

Always worth a phonecall to the existing insurer. But if they won’t budge then change, areyou with a cash back website too ?

FindPrimeLorca · 07/03/2019 11:13

If you’re otherwise happy with your insurer then I’d get a price through comparison website as haggling ammunition and ring back your existing insurer saying “I wasn’t happy with increased price: Aviva have quoted X-100, can you do better?”

Get quotes on line - including from your existing insurer. Then ring them and tell them you can get it cheaper and what is their best price?

mermaidbee · 07/03/2019 11:18

No, I think I may have signed up to one a long time ago after a family member mentioned it but didn't use it unfortunately, I'm a bit unsure of how they work to be honest Blush

I might give them a call then and tell them I'm thinking of switching insurers and see what they say.

We are happy with them otherwise it's just the price increase. Just doing quotes now.

I give all my insurers one chance to give me their best quote (not just price, coverage too).

I am certainly not going to go to the faff of price comparisons etc an then gift it back to an insurer who will price match competitors - they had their chance and they chose to try and fleece me, as long as they could get away with it.

Fuck 'em. Loyalty is meaningless now.

If you phone them to cancel renewal, they'll give you the whole "oh let's see if we can get you a better price" spiel. Why they can't do that in the 1st place is one of life's greatest mysteries. Compare online, there are always better deals out there.
