Get rid of credit card?

Hi everyone
I'll give a quick overview!
We have 10k house deposit off my parents and will be applying for mortgage in about one years time, looking at spending around £110k on house which will be easily manageable on our salaries
My question is, I have managed to pay off my credit card at last, but my partner and mum think I should keep the account open and use it for bits and bobs to keep my credit rating up.
I thought I would be better closing the account?
Any ideas please

I'm with your Mum and your dp.
Spend on it, and pay it off every month (you can set up a direct debit to do that). If you are nervous about getting into debt, just restrict yourself to using it for one type of spending - say your petrol and car expenses, or say just the grocery shop, or one particular aspect of your spending.

Yes, I would keep it open it’ll improve your credit score so you’ll get a better mortgage rate. Good luck

Yes keep it and use it for bits and bobs as dm and dh have said.
Keeping that going shows credit use which is good for your site and will be beneficial when it comes to getting your mortgage.
Congrats on clearing it BTW.

I agree, keep it, do one type of regular purchase on it as pp suggested and clear it every month

Keep it, set it as your Amazon card or Tesco or whatever you order online regularly, and most importantly set it to be paid in full every month. Credit rating gold.
