Overnight electricity

Can anyone tell me if it's still a "thing" that electricity overnight is cheaper than daytime?
Wondering about doing load of washing on timer every night to be ready to take out first thing in the morning.

Only if you have an Economy 7 (or 10) meter as far as I know.

blackteaplease · 21/01/2019 19:22

Only if you are on an economy 7 tariff. If you are on a normal tariff the price is the same all day and night.

londonloves · 21/01/2019 19:26

Ah ok, thanks. Still has bonuses for me as means the toddler can't interfere with the buttons! But We are on a normal (extortionate) tariff.

Can you not switch tariff then?

NaNarwhal3z · 27/01/2019 12:33

On your bill it should show you a standing charge per day. Then it will show you how much you pay per KW.

NaNarwhal3z · 27/01/2019 12:36

Use the information above in a comparison website and switch to a cheaper tariff

Actually our direct debit just gone down after latest meter reading so not too bad now, but will follow this advice for tariff checking, thank you.

Definitely change to economy tariff. Washing machine, dryer, dishwasher all have timers and go on during cheap tariff. We’ve also switched all our lights to LED (fittings where possible) bulbs as well. Even radiator in the conservatory comes on during cheap tariff. As we’ve replaced appliances we’ve only bought A+++. I was very sceptical but we get refund 3 quarters out of 4 so definitely makes a huge difference.
