Money problems after Mat leave.

I will be going back to work after Mat leave, however as it stands I can only do 16hrs so will be earning less than 600 a month. If I do more hours my housing benefits gets reduced. If I do 16 I can only pay for expenses and bills and have nothing to save life will be difficult. I don't know what to do I want to work and earn but it obviously can't any advice is welcome

Can you work more hours and put the extra income into a pension? That money then wouldn't count as income for benefits purposes plus you'd have the savings albeit in a pension. How old are you? Have you thought about pensions yet?

claim child maintainence?

Babyroobs · 02/11/2018 11:39

You may just have to accept that it's not possible to save anything for a few years while your child is young and that if you are only able to work a few hours and are reliant on benefits then you will just be living month to month. I don't think it is realistic to save on benefits.

@Babyroobs you are absolutely right, I think I'll wait until I can work and just stop stressing myself out.
