Hi, title says it all really! It's a small amount but I wondered where's the best place to go - bank, post office, etc?

We're saving ours in case we go somewhere next year that also uses euros

zebedeecactus · 31/07/2018 08:40

Hi Pixie, yes that's the most sensible thing but I think I need to put the money towards paying the rent unfortunately!ShockSmile

Try to find someone going on holiday who’ll buy them off you? Return exchange rates are pretty poor

dementedpixie · 31/07/2018 08:51

Shop around for the best exchange rate and then take into account they may charge commission too.

W00t · 31/07/2018 08:52

Sometimes the place you purchased them will exchange them back at a a marginally better rate- do you have the receipt for them at all?

dementedpixie · 31/07/2018 08:53

I know asda had a buy back guarantee but that cost extra. Where did you buy them from?

Teaformeplz · 31/07/2018 08:54

Did you keep the receipt from when you bought them? Often when you exchange money, unless you specifically ask for it they aromatically charge you around £5 for a 'buy back' guarantee without even telling you. This means you can change them back at the same rate you bought them

zebedeecactus · 31/07/2018 09:11

No, no receipt- I withdrew the euros in Ireland. It seems I'll just have to accept losing a fair bit in the exchange. But thanks for all the tips!

worth looking around for someone off on holiday and doing a deal. That will save you both some money.

Passthecake30 · 09/08/2018 07:32

Definitely try and exchange with someone who is going on holiday. I'm away soon and I'd do it!

Revolut?

Try the currency exchange group, I used them recently to exchange a load of Euros we got from family for DS! You post the money off via registered post and they transfer the money into your account as soon as it's processed. I got a really good exchange rate from them back in July so worth a look.
Initially I thought it seemed a bit sketchy but their trustpilot reviews were good and I had no issues at all.
