My top frugal tips are...
Set up different bank accounts for different things. Salary is paid into our joint account on payday then transferred into different accounts bills/ food, ISA, Holiday, Christmas, Birthday's, School related stuff (trips, uniforms, shoes), Family days out, big purchases and the children's pocket money. Once everything has been divided up into different accounts what is left over is divided by two and put into the bank account for personal spending e.g. coffee out etc.
Meal plan breakfast, lunch and dinners each week.
Shop around for your food shop. I shop in Aldi, Lidl, Waitrose and Sainsbury's weekly. I find Waitrose essential and Sainsbury's basic brands good. The only branded goods I buy these days are washing powder, toilet roll, baked beans, cornflakes and tomato ketchup.
Buy meat from butcher if you can. A little goes a long way. Ditto fruit/veg from a green grocer if you go fruit quickly. We do in our house.
Use a slow cooker and if you like soup in winter invest in.a slow cooker.
Save for Christmas and Birthdays from.Jan_Nov in an account or savings scheme where you cannot access it until Nov.
Use bars of soap instead of shower gel.
Aldi deodrant for women and their mens shower gel, deo, body spray, baby wipes are all excellent, as is Lidl toothpaste.
Use reusable sanitary towels or a moon cup
Use castor oil/ olive oil to cleanse with. I add a little bit of rose oil to mine to fragrance it. Use organic coconut oil as a face and body and a mosturiser. I also use astral cream
Followed by suncream spf 30 on my face.
Use zoraflora disinfectant to clean.
Line dry if you can, but if you use tumble dryer and like tumble dryer sheets make your own with old cut up flannels and diluted softener.
Use half the recommended dose of washing powder and softener. It still does the job.
Use men's tolietries if you do not have sensitive skin they are a lot cheaper than ones aimed at women.
Start Christmas shopping in the summer. Buy small gifts if you see them on offer. I am making pamper hampers this year and saw dove shower mousse buy one get one free the other day so picked it up for my hampers.
Take your own packed lunch,coffee/tea and water to work.
Buy everyone in the family a leak proof water bottle (coginto are good) and take out with you, so you are not buying drinks, food out. Ditto healthy snacks for you and kids.
If going on a family day out take a pack up.
Know when your local shop reduces its stuff. My local co_op reduces at 8pm
I try and live on £3 a day during the working week. I know this is my budget I choose to set myself and I stick to it.
Save £1 and £2 coins that are in your pursue at the end of each week. It soon adds up.
