Minimum spend school holiday

I am trying a minimum spend school holidays. If I post on here it might help me see and 🙄 at myself for unnecessary spends . Anyone who wants to join in please do .

So far.
Yesterday. I bought a coffee at the play park for £2

Today we went to local beach parked for free and had a 20 minute walk each way . Took picnic . Ended up spending £2 on 2 ices from supermarket as went in with my sister and we split the boxes between us all which saved a bit of money as the ones near the beach were £2.40 each!

Cinema today (mainly for the aircon) so 15 spent. Weekend was no-spend though, big Lego afternoon getting it aaaaall out on Sat, and visiting relatives on Sun. Tomorrow should be no-spend at playground meeting friends. Weds meeting other folk at cafe so need to budget for that.

Having fair amount of success getting DD involved in helping with meal cooking - keeps her occupied, and means we're using up food we already have so no extra top up grocery costs.

@MagicKeysToAsda you are doing really well. And the using the food from home is proving to be a lot cheaper for us too. Even though we took nanny out for her coffee i took a bag if snacks for kids during the day which saved a bit of money. The cafe was also selling yesterday's cake for £1 a slice instead of £3.25 which was fine washed down with the hot drink.

Was a more expensive day though as had to get a couple of birthday presents. Kids took their own money to spend on stuff in toy shop which after some discussion with me was spent wisely getting the best value for their money.

Ugh what i hoped would be a no spend cost me £10! Day out to NT place, member so that was free but ended up buying hot chocolates to warm up. Afternoon was bright and sunny then kids needed an ice cream! One extreme to the other.

Day out at Whipsnade zoo yesterday, paid with Tesco vouchers, took a picnic, resisted ice cream and train ride. Cost of whole day: £1.20.
Would have been £68 for entry alone otherwise

RoseMartha · 11/08/2018 07:00

@maggienolia that sounds a great day out.

It has been wet here and i have had to do bit shopping. Like school uniform bits, cleaning bits, couple of food items. Also did nearby visiting relatives.
Not had any school holiday bits since Wednesday. As i wont pay to go to soft play and hate the swimming pool on rainy day as crowded. The trampoline places are expensive and a good drive away. And the museums are not close either and didnt feel like driving there in pouring rain.

Spendy day coming up on Monday (long-planned get together with friends, but there will be parking, train, and attraction entry costs) so keeping everything as low key as poss over the weekend. Happily DC had a birthday so there are loads of new toys, books etc to keep them occupied. At the first hint of a boredom complaint I shall threaten to get them started on their thank you letters Wink

Trying to lead by example, so re-reading some old favourite books as I've finished my batch from the library. Also dug out some of the many unfinished knitting last night as it is finally cool enough to think about that.

@MagicKeysToAsda hope you have nice day tomorrow.

We went out with friends today to a place we are members so was cheap but fun.

Thank you! Glad you had a good day. Made DD some new trousers yesterday from fabric I've had for ages. They're far from perfect but she likes them!

RoseMartha · 15/08/2018 22:22

@MagicKeysToAsda good that she likes them. Well done for making them.

We went camping for a few days. Spent about £30 on bits while away.
